I came home rather spirited to write this piece after a scrumptious lunch, inspiring conversation and an enheartening short interview with Chef Ashley; the mastermind behind the amazing healthy yet delicious menu in Living Food @Menara Tan & Tan on Jalan Tun Razak.

Hunt for good nyonya kuih in Melaka – Yummy Garden Food Court, Jalan Ujong Pasir & Malay Kuih – Perhentian Kuih Kampong

After my previous post (read HERE –> What to eat in Melaka – Baba Charlie) some argued that Baba Charlie is too commercialized and overrated.
Well, I’m all for constructive feedback so thank you to those who said so. 🙂
This then bought me to my question; surely there are other masters of nyonya kuih making in this heritage rich albeit getting-too-commercial for my taste city? As it is I’m having difficulty getting good, authentic Nyonya cuisine here so pray tell me that delectable nyonya kuih is not a fast disappearing art too?

My Personal Training Diary @ Celebrity Fitness : December – Lesson 1 and 2

In continuation of my 30 mins assessment with my personal trainer Lucius I started my 1st 2 sessions within the same week. (You can read about the assessment & my updates via Whatsapp on my diet –> HERE).
However I got an injury from the filming of the last episode of The Influencer and further aggravated the injury on the race day for the Maxis Bloggers Blaze.

To cut the long story short, PT was halted for the last 2 weeks though I did continue with lighter exercises. I’m the sort who can’t stop exercising at all, even if I have injuries. For me, if I don’t sweat for 2 days, I’ll be one hell of a cranky bitch. 😀

I’m going to monitor my progress using this blog as an “online diary”.  Since my Personal Training sessions are scheduled to begin again this week, here’s a quick recap of my 1st 2 sessions.
Each session lasts an hour.

Day 1: Personal Training lessons @ #CelebrityFitness 11th December 2013.
If you don’t already know, my trainer is Lucius, who I’ll get to pose for a picture SOON.

5 minutes warm up.

1. 10kg each side (20kg) bar on shoulders squats – 10 reps x 3 sets
2. TRX band pull ups – 10 reps x 4 sets
3. Full push ups – 10 reps x 4 sets
4. Kettlebell swing – 10 reps x 4 sets

Weekend Brunch: Bangsar – Yeast Bistronomy & Boulangerie

How was your New Year day?
As I pen this, it’s 4pm in the afternoon and I’m thinking of what’s next for dinner. 🙂

Brunch was decent breakfast grub from Yeast on Telawi, Bangsar. As we know the stretch of Telawi roads and all around Bangsar Village is dotted with more cafes than one could remember. Every outlet serves breakfast, coffee and decent cakes.
Some like Antipodean commands a ridiculous queue on weekends & public holidays.

I have heard much about Yeast’s breakfast. When I first visited in November 2012 during their soft launch, the breads were alright while the tarts served that evening were a bit off. Subsequent return visits for dinner wasn’t particularly memorable except for the duck confit (we had 3 mains) so I haven’t bothered with a post.

Exhibit Cafe @Taman Tun (TTDI) – mostly beans from Maruyama Coffee, JAPAN

When a fellow blogger friend posted about this cafe, I was instantly intrigued with some of the more unusual coffee beans/blends offered, the pastries, the furnishings and of course, the fact that it is a 3 minutes walk from home.

Chendol in Melaka – Donald & Lily, Makko, Jeta Groves, Nancy’s Kitchen & Justberrys

Becky’s 1 minute summary:
1. Justberrys
2. Jeta Grove then Donald’s & Lily followed by Nancy’s Kitchen and Makko.

This list is based on the chendol(s) that I have personally sampled so far. Do feel free to recommend more by leaving your suggestions in the comment section of this post ! 🙂
My advice? Ignore all of them and just head over to Justberrys.

For the long story, read on.

I had wanted “Nyonya food” for lunch on this 2 days trip.
So the 1st day was at Makko; just because David, my partner for the trip insisted that Makko’s chendol is good.

But we were too early so we headed to Jeta Groves for a quick snack before lunch.

Best Chendol in Melaka – Durian ice and chendol – Justberrys Dessert House

I have tried a few chendols in Melaka and few (if any) can beat this one at Justberrys. Even the locals think so (namely my Malaccan friends) and had sadly admitted that most local nyonya food and chendol are not what it was before.

It’s surprising that it is not an old stall by the roadside (for nostalgia sake) that takes the title of “best chendol” but a modern, air conditioned, sterile shoplot.
Yes, the venue is clean and it is comfortable, but but…
