My friend Jeffry was the first person to break the news about this place.
The pictures he sent to me over Whatsapp was tempting enough, plus he assured me that this is one of the better waffles in town.
I’ve been on a low carb lifestyle for the longest time; but could never resist a good waffle.

It wasn’t difficult to swear off waffles in KL/PJ, considering the lame versions that establishments are serving these days.
Most are crispy and airy; and people go nuts over those, which is understandable as crispy ones are esier to eat and goes well with ice cream (I presume) but I personally love the Belgium thicker, bread-ier ones.

There’s a reason why my weekly cake quota (which is about 2 slices) goes to Swich Cafe.
Their cakes consistent hits all the right notes for me; never too dry or greasy, quality ingredients (I can tell ok!) and always fresh because they have very stringent quality control.

I would relax and enjoy my cakes at the outlet (more like a little cafe) since the location is tucked away from the busy main boulevard or I’ll grab my selection and eat at home.
Nothing like some good desserts to get the writing mode on! 😀

Cafe hop KL: Good waffles @ Brewmen, Solaris Mt Kiara

The waffles is suddenly “hip” again.
The resurgence of this familiar grid-shaped and golden brown crispy cooked batter was in tandem with the pop-ups of the caffeine joints all over Klang Valley.
Since almost every cafe serves breakfast platter, sandwiches and cakes, some decided that maybe, waffles could set them apart.
The plain waffle is the perfect foil for almost any ingredients so we started seeing waffles with savoury items like sausages and bacon. Some decided that bacon and ice cream works.

I like my waffles a bit dense compared to the much favoured light, crispy ones. The best waffles I’ve had was not surprisingly, in Belgium.
But I understand the limitations of being in Malaysian, so I wasn’t demanding Belgium waffles, but a one with a substantial bite at least.

UNCLE TETSU CHEESECAKE @ 1U Shopping Centre

I’ve been baking a lot lately but I have not attempted a cheesecake as yet.
To be honest I love my cheese as it is, the more vintage the better. Cheesecakes are a hit and miss; some too dense, some too light and most lacked any flavours or texture other than being plain sweet and sticky.

Uncle Tetsu opened just last week at 1U and since it was just a short walk away from my home, I didn’t mind giving it a go.
Besides, it’s been a while since I had a good plain cheesecake. And its reputation as one of the best cheesecakes around did intrigued me.

New : The Loaf Bakery & Bistro – Asian Cuisine & dessert Hokkaido Honey Toast

After featuring a long list of Ramadan buffets (I have compared about 20 buffets here so click –> https://rebeccasaw.com/list-of-ramadan-buffets-in-kl-for-buka-puasa-this-2014/), I’m now looking for Ramadan set dinners.

Well I haven’t sampled many as I didn’t have much time; but I remembered that I was at The Loaf recently and the launch of their new Asian cuisines menu was worth checking out!

The Loaf’s Ramadan set is a reasonable price of RM19.90 and you can choose from Ayam Percik, Rendang Jawa or Nasi Goreng Kampung.
I didn’t try the set per se but prior to Ramadan I was at The Loaf to sample the Asian menu and overall I find the offerings well executed.

An avid supporter of Cielo Dolci, I have always admired the founder for his ingenuity in creating unique yet clever flavours that works.
Cielo’s Nasi Lemak gelato is first in the country and he continues to surprise with unexpected flavours like tau fu fa (soymilk), kedondong, Genmaicha (roasted brown rice + green tea), pineapple tart and popcorn.

I have been scouting around for good brunch venues to recommend on my blog; preferably somewhere out of the usual congested areas like Uptown Damansara, Bangsar and Hartamas/Publika.

Somewhere cosy yet still bearing the postcodes of PJ/KL.
