Awesome Canteen, Paramount PJ – paleo, gluten free dining option

When I first visited Awesome Canteen when they opened years back I wasn’t impressed with the food nor the hype surrounding its paleo burger.
But it is the first outlet that markets this as one of its main menu items, resulting in paleo and non-paleo eaters ordering it more out of curiosity than anything else (or so I think).

Reviews of its food was mixed since, but it has undisputedly garnered its legion of fans over the years, as seen from the brand’s expansion to Penang while the Paramount outlet is steadily welcoming customers, both old and new.
They made next door Prologue, its porky sister Japanese restaurant offering bentos and ramen.
So yes, Awesome Canteen has continued being awesome for their fans!

Bangsar is almost my second home.

Want to shop or eat/chill out? You can go wrong being at the Telawi and Bangsar Villages vicinity.
Need to go low cost?
There are several mamaks around while Lucky Garden and the TMC area are good bets with numerous Chinese coffeeshops offering everything from Sarawak Laksa to Chicken Rice and dim sum.
Even for the extreme budget conscious Malaysians, the row of stalls near the famous Anuar fish head curry should be able to satisfy any appetite.

I go to my gym in the mornings and I’ll hang around until late afternoon at one of the cafes or even mamaks just so I stay out the whole day.
Staying out forces me to be more productive; for I’m finding my own office a bit too comfortable lately!

Fork D World Bistro Cafe : Brunch, lunch & dinner + bacon bacon bacon!

An F & B outlet barely 2 weeks in operations, Fork D World Bistro caught our attention because it is an outlet that honor bacon in almost everything on the menu.

Yes, it is very NON-HALAL.

Warung Kek – Bakery Joy Taman Megah – Mee Siam, Nasi Lemak breakfast

Back in the days when I consume bread for almost every meal, Bakery Joy was one of my favourite bakeries to fuel my carb laden lifestyle.

The wholemeal tuna buns were my favourite. The buns are long-shaped and stuffed generously with tuna. Common tuna fillings for buns are 60% mayo and 40% actual tuna, but Bakery Joy’s version are non-mayo based and not overly greasy.

Ever since I switched to a low-carb lifestyle my visits to bakeries had dwindled to almost never.
Occasionally I bake my own breads but I don’t do so often either since I don’t consume bread unless I’m absolutely out of alternatives.

I Am 80s Cafe Petaling Jaya

We are always on the lookout for a cafe away from the usual crowded locality of Publika, Hartamas, SS2 and Damansara.
We both write, and we appreciate the occasional change of surroundings that might act as a catalyst for the dreaded writers’ block.

This was an unlikely discovery, for there is no reason for me to be in the neighbourhood but as circumstances would have it, I did went pass this street one day and saw the signboard.
“Oh, wow. A hidden cafe. Looks peaceful here.” I had thought.

I had lunch with a close friend late last week and we were on the topic of worthy-cafes-to-visit.
Other than Tray Cafe in Hartamas, which coincidentally where we were at, she mentioned The Porcupine Place and Second Sunday.

Now The Porcupine Place is at Puchong, so that’s out of the question.
Second Sunday however, was doable.

Every Sundae @ Damansara Uptown for gelato, waffles, coffee and cakes!

And so the gelato maestro of Klang Valley decided to open another outlet at Damansara Uptown, this time focusing on gelato-soft serve hybrid thrown together with the “in and popular” choices of the current dessert craze.

Thus if you can’t decide which is your favourite; a crispy waffle, a soft crepe or a crumbly cookie, you can have them all (or one) as your base, followed by 4 choices of currently available soft serves and have your chosen creation topped with 6 different toppings followed by 6 different sauces.

All in all, there are many possible permutations of desserts here at Every Sundae.

A fan of waffles (or rather I didn’t like anything else on the menu), I chose that as my base.
The limited selection of only 4 flavours for the soft-serve had me stumped for a while, but in the end I decided on the Raspberry Cinnamon Sorbetto after much pondering, and after much assurance by the staff that it is not too icy.
