FLY via Subang to Hat Yai with Firefly Airlines!

Many thanks to Firefly Airlines again I’m in Thailand, Hatyai for a 3D2N break! 🙂

firefly inaugural flight - hatyai-006

The last I’ve been to Hatyai was nearly a decade back, and my memories of the province are vague at best. I do remember cheap delicious food and crazy shopping sessions though!
Today, 17th August 2012, Firefly commenced its 4 weekly services between Subang, KL and Hat Yat in the southern Gulf Coast of Thailand. Its inaugural flight FY3614, of which I was flying in, took off with almost 100% passenger load!

Bulgogi Brothers @ Paradigm Mall

Have you seen those Gang-Nam tweets and Gang-Nam mentions on Facebook lately? Is Gang-Nam flooding your FB timeline?
Well, the first Bulgogi Brothers restaurant was opened in Gang-Nam, south of Seoul, Korea in 2006!

Hahah.. ok, a distance relevance but I thought I’ll mention it anyhow. What’s with the Gang-Nam obsession online anyways?

My obsession would be BEEF. Yes, coming back to the food at Bulgogi Brothers. It’s shiny new outlet @ Paradigm Mall welcomed a bunch of us for a preview session and I had small bites of each of the dishes you see below. It certainly wasn’t enough for me and I’m heading back for more this week!

Why “Bulgogi Brothers”?

The restaurant’s name represents “Bulgogi”, one of Korea’s most globally popular dishes and “Brothers”, which represents the guests, gathered together having a good time and enjoying camaraderie. It also refers to the two founders, the masters in food service who have been friends for a long time.

If you’re unfamiliar, Bulgogi is a savory dish that dates back to 200 years, which literally means fire meat (“bul” means fire while “gogi” is meat).

Chef Johann Lafer and Chef Wai – Two Chefs, One Cuisine at Shook! Starhill Gallery

Every year I would sit in some of the Midsummer Nights Feast dinners. This year, most of the dinners are closed affairs, and Chef Hom and Chef Johann’s was the very few that I had the good fortune to dine in. I was truly disappointed with Chef Ken Hom’s session and had hoped hard that Chef Johann Lafer won’t be of a similar letdown.

Customising my own IKEA wardrobe for less than RM1,000!

Ever since moving to my new place I had needed a wardrobe. But it can’t be a normal 2 door cupboard as I have an insanely mountainous amount of clothes!
Unfortunately even with such an abundance of outfits, I’m still plagued daily with the same dilemma as any other female; where we stood in the middle of our room and threw our hands up in exasperation muttering “Urghh! I’ve got nothing to wear today!” 😉

Because I was saving up for an oven, I ignored the heaps of clothes strewn everywhere; in the living room,in the laundry basket and of course, in the room. After a while, I grew intensely infuriated as I ended up wearing the same thing over and over again or I just couldn’t find the exact item I know I own but missing whenever an occasion calls for it.
Finally I decided to hop into IKEA to check the prices for a wardrobe. I had also wanted to research on the some of the items I saw during my trip to Ikea Paris and The Netherlands to make a comparison if IKEA in Europe is cheaper than Malaysia and also if their range of furniture are any different.

IKEA Wardrobe 2012-045

I should have posted on my “foreign IKEA visits” earlier but was stopped due to remarks of irrelevant content by the IKEA here. Anyhow, who wants to keep reading about Ikea at IKANO Power Centre? I’m sure my article on Ikea Paris and The Netherlands are going to be as interesting if not more. Thus that will be posted soon. 🙂

At Serena Brasserie, Intercontinental Hotel KL, the live stations were impressive.

Ramdhan Buffet- Intercontinental Hotel 2012-001

Smoking hot satay and whole lamb aside, there was a teppanyaki counter and a BAKAR-BAKAR ALA KAMPUNG (Melaka) station that dishes out fat stuffed ikan kembung/cencaru (mackerel) and marinated stingrays in  piquant air asam dan cili kicap. Here, you have a flock of diners perpetually in queue.

A Minor Place – Plaza Damas, Hartamas – PORK BURGER!

Happy Sunday all! 🙂
While I’m not sure about the rest of you, my weekends are generally scheduled for food hunts, may it be in KL or further. 😀

Today I finally had time to drop in at A Minor Place, an outlet that serves swine-ful delights that includes a mean pork nasi lemak and pork burger. It’s my mission to eat every pork burger in town so yes, I had my radar aimed here for a while!

I was so hungry and lazy that I only took pictures of my pork burger before tucking in! :DD My dining partners ordered the Aglio Olio and a Pork Chop each. More on those 2 dishes later but it was really the Pork Burger that’s worth the visit.

I daresay this is one of the rare pork patties that has attained an almost perfect texture.  It has good structure; firm yet not overly dense. It retained its juiciness within (do note that could be due to the fact that I specifically requested for medium rare), and was perfectly pink with a nice, crisp outer shell.  The flavour was balanced and most of its taste came from the meat, rather than any strong seasonings.

Pangkor Laut Resort, Spa Village – Royal Secrets of Puteri Lindungan Bulan – RM850!

When I was in Tanjung Jara Resort earlier in April this year, I tried the their Spa Village services for the first time. The mandi bunga ritual was really fun, and the attentiveness of the therapists and consultants really impressed me. My treatment – The Asam Roselle (ROSELLE BODY TREATMENT) was thoroughly enjoyable; indeed a terrific mood booster and left me feeling truly relaxed (well, being in the resort helped, since I didn’t have to battle KL traffic to get home after!), as how an effective spa session should be.

Ramadhan Buffet 2012 – Paya Serai, Hilton PJ

** For more Ramadhan reviews click HERE –> Ramadhan Buffets – Where’s your favourite?

Frankly, this took my breath away as one of the most extensive buffet ever, with so many dishes at each section that I shook my head in disbelief as I kept on taking picture after picture, all the while wondering when it will end so I can finally “break fast”.

Below: Just the appetisers (tossed raw salads – kerabu) section alone offers about 15 different trays of kerabu.
