After the ramadan buffets, it’s time to indulge in mooncakes.
I started this year binge with 10 different moncakes samplings few days back at Tai Thong, and one particular flavour that got me hooked was the Imperial Musang King Royale.
A limited edition mooncake (so limited that advanced reservations are encouraged), this luscious and creamy snowskin creation is made with 100% premium Musang King Durian, without the addition of any flour, colouring or sugar (save for the snowskin).

What else do people do in Chengdu besides pigging out on Sichuan food, numb their tongues and sweat over the hot pots and go oohh–ahhh over pandas?
Well, they go to opera houses and watch the mask changing performances!

New Century Global Centre – biggest building in the world in Chengdu China

Right before we had our last dinner in Chengdu we detoured to the visit biggest building in the world. I have read about it online on social sites and found out that this monstrously huge building was just opened end of June.

And here I am, right here in Chengdu. Of all the shrines, temples and gardens that were slotted into our itinerary, how come the New Century Global Centre isn’t, I asked my guide.

On our 3rd day in Chengdu and after 5-6 Sichuan meals, we were all ready for a change of cuisine. In fact most of us were already craving for our familiar western fare.

It so happened that we were scheduled to visit Happy Valley, a theme park in Chengdu where we are expected to watch the dinner show “Paradise Ethos Chinese Cultural Show” that evening. At this theme park, there are shopping options as well as international food chains. And the first 2 that we saw as we walked from the entrance was Mcdonalds and KFC. 😀

Visiting pandas in Chengdu is a must. If you haven’t seen the pandas, then you haven’t been to Chengdu. Or so it seems that way. “Panda tourism” is big business in China. Each year hundreds of thousands of people (both local and foreign) visit the country’s world famous centre in Chengdu. a city about 2,000km southwest of Beijing.

Salt must be a precious commodity in the Sichuan province. It’s so surprisingly to see vibrant, vivid colours of the food served and finding out that it tasted absolutely different from its appearance.

Best Ramadan Buffet in KL – JW Marriott – RM75++ – traditional Malay cuisine

Last year it was fantastic. This year, The JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur is proud to bring back its long-standing tradition of serving 138 of nenek’s traditional recipes and more for its buka puasa buffet this holy month of Ramadhan.

Dine by the pool and enjoy the wonderful sight of gerai –rustic wooded stalls serving specialities such as Satay Kampong and Ikan Panggang, as well as heartier dishes at the Gerai Nasi Dagang, Nasi Kandar and Nasi Ayam or book yourself a table in the air-conditioned comforts of the conference hall. Either way, the food is scrumptious, the spread is wide and the service is warm.

Japanese acupuncture at Meridians Japanese Healing Arts – Solaris Mt Kiara

During the last few weeks of June I had been alarmed about my condition. Medications wasn’t working, even with 8 hours of sleep I’m fatigued and gastric pains was crippling me. I’m glad to report that I have since recovered (thank god!) but during those weeks when I was in agony, I was desperately seeking solutions.

One of the treatment I tried was Japanese acupuncture. To be frank I wasn’t the slightest bit keen at first. I had a lot of work, I’m barely able to walk and whoever who thinks acupuncture and massage helps must be mad, I had thought. Short term relieve but I need something long-term; I had told my friend who recommended Meridians at Solaris Mt. Kiara. Seriously no needles (other than those filled with painkillers) is going to work on stomach wind and stomach acid, I had argued.

Anyhow Oran (the owner and practitioner) from Meridians was persistent. After he had my number he called a few times to set an appointment for me. I briefly told him of my condition and he was genuinely concerned and advised that I spare some time to visit him.

After a week or so I finally stepped in to Meridians Japanese Healing Arts in Solaris Mt. Kiara.
