I first visited the Red Bean Bag shortly after they were opened. That was quite some time ago, and being a huge fan of burgers, the first thing I tried from their menu was their beef burger.

It was rather salty and certainly didn’t leave a memorably impression. But the Guinness Chocolate Cake and the smoothies were fabulous! You can view the pictures and review here.

I wasn’t really in a hurry for a re-visit since food fell short of pleasant. I finally did after being prompted by many friends who waxed lyrical about their French toast and breakfast sets.

Good Italian Restaurant in KL – Favola, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Is a good Italian restaurant in KL difficult to find?

Well not really, unless you want those serving pork. I have my default recommendations according to budget. Yes you read right, according to budget.
For family and big groups without having to burn a black hole in your wallet, and yet score yourself a pretty satisfying meal, go for Porta Romano (I usually go to the TTDI branch) or La Risata on Jalan Kasah. Given that your wallet allows you a budget a notch higher, then Garibaldi (sorry it was just announced that it has ceased operations) or Il Lido, Nerovivo, Neroteca (non-halal) are good bets.

I can’t say I’m an Italian connoisseur as I have yet to step foot on Italian soil. One of my more memorable Italian meal (with pork and all) was in Bali at Bene, Sheraton Bali Kuta.
Back in KL, I would usually hop into Favola at Le Meridien. It has fulfilled any pizza/pastas cravings for me so far, and besides, my Starwood Privilege Card entitles me to 50% off the food bill if there are 2 pax dining.

Melaka Food Hunt: Chicken Rice Balls, Nyonya Laksa, Assam Pedas Fish, Hainanese Mutton Soup

Having 2 glorious nights hosted at the Case del Rio boutique hotel at the Melaka riverside, I took the opportunity to (what else?) scour the streets of old charming Melaka to unearth some of its culinary gems.

All the Jonker overrated shops and insipid nyonya restarants has been getting all the coverage lately. I had followed the same path, since I needed to experience for myself what’s the fuss all about and frankly none of them left me impressed.

And of course, what better way to find the good stuffs if not by engaging with a local born, bred and current Malaccan resident? Vincent has been the most gracious host, taking time off his busy work schedule to help us satisfy our insatiable hunger.

Breakfast was following a tip from a Malaccan. Unfortunately his tip wasn’t too updated and we ended up having to settle for a quick red wine mee sua to hold back our hunger since the duck noodles he recommended wasn’t in business anymore.

Thanks for surfing over to this page. I have listed here some Melaka eats that I have tried during my makan trips to this charming (but HOT!) city. I’m not originally from Melaka, do not claim this to be a list of “top eats/must visit” joints in Melaka but merely listing down the places that was recommended by my Malaccan friends who has generously shared their favourite eateries with me.

Other than burgers steaks are another obsession of mine.
I guess it wouldn’t have been such a dedicated pursuit if it weren’t for the fact that a good juicy steak can be challenge to find. Maybe it’s KL, or maybe it’s my fussy tastebuds.
Whatever it is, my search has recently uncovered a superb venue for a superb steak, though unfortunately not in KL.

I do wish I had tried more burgers in Firehouse while in Bangkok. There was time for only one before the #DIAsiaTourism Awards Night and subsequent evenings plans were disrupted no thanks to heavy rain and jams worst than the ones we see in KL.
