L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon – Resort World Sentosa & meeting Joël Robuchon himself!
When I realized L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon started offering Sunday lunches from SGD49 (the lowest priced menu) last November, I realized this is probably the best bet I’ll ever have to dine at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon without declaring bankruptcy. Ok, perhaps that was bit of a melodramatic statement but earning Malaysian ringgit can be a pain, especially when it automatically degrades you 2.5 times in monetary value the moment you land in Singapore.
November was a busy month and I had hoped that December would ease up a bit so I’ll be able to visit L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon for their Sunday brunch. As fate would have it, Joël Robuchon himself was in town for a week in the month of November!
Thankfully I didn’t have any trips planned that week so I timed my visit to coincide with the week he was in Singapore. And instead of lunch, Rainier had suggested dinner. He explained that L’Atelier tasting menus would give me a good idea of the food in smaller portions and it would still comparatively cheaper than ordering ala-carte.
Burps and Giggles Ipoh – burgers, cake, coffee and pastries!
Somehow I find myself more attracted to Ipoh than any other town in Malaysia. A mix of the familiar, the nostalgic, the modern in addition to the the calm, serene pace, Ipoh is my choice if I need breather from KL.
Buku Tiga Lima Ipoh – Love the crepes, bagels and hot spuds!
Since I had the Volkswagen Beetle 1.2 TSI at my disposal with a tankful of fuel, it’s time to head out of KL!
Julie’s (of Indulgence Restaurant) latest venture has been enticing me for the longest time. If you don’t already know, Burp and Giggles (what an orginal name!) serves a medley of burgers with patties that are Julie’s very own recipes with freshly baked buns from her Indulgence Restaurant. Julie’s food has always been slightly on the high side for Ipoh, but that hasn’t bothered me much as I’m of the opinion that if you want Ipoh prices then there’s always hawker food. Moreover I have always been intrigued with her passion, creativity and originality in her ventures.
Her Indulgence Living is truly one of a kind, not just in Ipoh but in Malaysia. She was also the lone brave soul to start a luxury dining restaurant about a decade ago in this sleepy town of Ipoh and proved everyone who doubted that fine dining could command a steady business in Ipoh wrong.
Hostel in Osaka, Japan: J-hoppers hostel @ Fukushima Osaka
I have one more hostel to blog about in Tokyo, but today I feel like blogging about this one! 🙂
Hostel in Japan: Khaosan Tokyo Original, Asakusa Japan
Due to poor planning (or no planning at all), one of the days within the week I was at Asakusa area my hostel (Sakura) didn’t have any space so I had to move just for that one night. Well, not a problem I thought, it should be easy enough to get another hostel in the hostel infested area of Asakusa. Or so I thought.
As luck would have it, most of the affordable ones (meaning cheaper than 2500 Yen – RM120) are fully booked.
After much googling and surfing between hostelworld and other sites, I’m back on hostelworld and booked the cheapest available but pretty nearby one.
Hostel in Japan: Sakura Hostel @ Asakusa, Japan
When I went to Japan last year, it was by stroke of luck that I got tickets from Data Tony himself on twitter. Happy with such a windfall, the worry of footing my own expenses and accommodation didn’t really hit me til I started researching online.
Food in Nepal – Day 3, 4 – breakfast, Him Thai Restaurant, Cafereena – a multi cuisine restaurant & Chinatown Restaurant
Day 3 started at 4am with no breakfast. Thankfully I had my stash of pastries bought the night before. 😛
As you may know, the very next morning in Pokhara we went up to Sarangkot for the breathtaking sunrise. Do take a look at the pictures HERE.
Upon our return, we tucked in our breakfast at Hotel Trek-O-Tel (Pokhara) which was extravagant by Nepalese standards. Other than the usual bread, butter, milk and plain fried eggs, there were pork, stewed cucumbers, dhalls, POTATOES, chappati and thick fluffy scrambled eggs with minced vegetables.
Day 3- Breakfast.
