The non-halal food court @ Avenue K – Taste Enclave

The recent 1-2 years saw non-halal food courts popping up furiously in shopping malls.

Eating pork dishes is no longer confined to grubby coffee shops and decrepit food courts. Gone were the days when proprietors worry that serving the swine will reduce potential profits and market share.
No, now it is all about chewing on glorious crackly siew yok and melt-in-the-mouth char siew in the air-conditioned comforts of a food court located in swanky malls.

Savoury waffles with PORK at Andes BYO, Aman Suria

The waffle craze may be getting be getting a bit out of hand.
Waffle specialty shops are popping up too fast for me to even track, and I’ll be very fat if I were to just sample one from each shop.

However, combine waffles with pork and I’ll make an exception. A very exceptional exception, like coming out from my comfortable home on New Year’s day and stuffing my face with it.

51 Restaurant and Bar – Changkat Bukit Bintang – good steaks in KL!

The 51 Restaurant is actually under the Pampas Group of restaurants. The Pampas restaurants (PAMPAS Grill & Bar on Changkat, Pampas Reserve at Bukit Ceylon’s Suasana Residences, Pampas Burger Dataran Jelatek, Setiawangsa and 51 Restaurant) are known for their steaks.

Funnily enough though I’m a huge steak eater I haven’t stepped into any of Pampas restaurants till recently.
I guess I must have given up finding good steaks in KL without having to pay and arm and a leg.
My default steak places has been either Beato or The Restaurant at Saujana (Chef Alexander Waschl is a superb chef and I like most of his creations).

Now, I added 51 Restaurant to my list because I just had a really good rib eye for RM45++! 🙂

Example: 250g Grass Fed Rib Eye, medium rare – RM45++ .

Grand Hyatt Hotel KL : Peanut Butter Sesame Snowskin

In view of the recent health-conscious mindset of Malaysia’s population, all of Grand Hyatt’s traditional baked and snowskin mooncakes come with less sugar for a less sinful celebration.
The baked traditional ones includes red bean, white lotus, white lotus with single yolk and white lotus with double yolk.
I had sampled those last year so you can read about them HERE –> https://rebeccasaw.com/grand-hyatt-kuala-lumpur-mooncakes-for-2013/

This year, I concentrated instead on their snowskin varieties which I missed last year.
All handcrafted, 4 snowskin varieties are available in black sesame, green tea, pandan and lotus flavours. Prices begin at RM26++ per piece or RM102++ per box.

Limapulo – Jalan Doraisamy: A Nyonya meal in KL for dinner

This is a follow up from my previous post about the set lunches here at Limapulo.
If you had missed it, the link is –> HERE).
As I have said, I enjoyed the set lunches (or rather the ones that I ordered) but not so much the dinner.

Dinner was actually my first visit and while it didn’t make much of a positive impression on me nor my fellow dinner mates,  I’m glad that I returned for lunch, for the Ayam Berempah Curry was fabulous and the Mee Siam is quite good.

Limapulo – Baba Can Cook : Good Nyonya lunch in KL

I spent a considerable amount of money eating in a number of Nyonya restaurants in Melaka; seeking for the elusive homecooked true Nyonya meal, one that I can confidently pass the verdict “excellent” and finally recommend to my friends and readers as “the Nyonya place” to go.
