I do love fashion, and wish I have more time to explore, read and write about it.

When I was assigned to some fashion stories I was more than eager to learn and talk to some powerhouse in the local fashion industry.
I knew about Earth Heir from a friend, and I hunted both partners down for a quick chat.
I found out soon enough that both Sasi and Ee Leng are great, inspiring women. And as Sasi spoke about her brand and her vision, I felt myself drawn to her stories and her ambitions to reach out and help the less fortunate.

Earth Heir’s range of handwoven silk scarves start at RM160, while the hand-stitched clutches starts from RM480 and the necklaces are from RM450. They are located at the Square Room in Bangsar Shopping Centre.

Malay Mail – the Laureus World Sports Awards 2014

I have never heard of the Laureus til a good friend John (who’s an absolutely sports fiend) told me about it.
Even then I wasn’t particularly interested though I’m quite a sports person myself. The Laureus was more like an event, not so much about playing a sport and my interest in sports has always been about participant and doing; not so much as a spectator.

But I mentioned about it to my editor, and she got excited for a lifestyle angle to the story (since the Malay Mail sports desk is already sending a rep) and asked if I could secure a pass for myself.
Leveraging on the vast pool of contacts I’ve got, I said I’ll try and I did.

To cut a long story short, I got media passes for myself and Joanna; a skilled photographer for the job. Joanna fancies Benedict Cumberbatch very much, which so explains the amount of photographs of Cumberbatch from the event. LOL!

Writing about concerts for Malay Mail – Avril Lavigne, Il Divo & Bryan McKnight

I’m not a huge fan of concerts and raves and I usually ignore invites to such events. These invites are largely due to the fact that I am a blogger and the PRs/organisers who bestow the invite would expect a post event write-up.

It’s not that I can’t write a concert review, but I felt that not many readers are actually interested in such content, and most bloggers take the easy way out by just posting 20 photographs of themselves and their friends parting the night away.
To me that’s not a story worth writing.

But when I started my freelance gig with Malay Mail I realised soon enough that my dear Editor would send me to all sort of events and assignments. There are concerts, there are phone interviews, face-to-face interviews with celebrities and there are prestigious events like the Laureus World Sports Awards 2014.
Good lord, I do feel like a true journalist then.  🙂

My first concert assignment was Avril Lavigne. I didn’t really enjoy it as she was quite underwhelming considering her reputation.

I told my editor about my thoughts and she actually said that that’s ok, do write what you think. And thus my not-so-favourable review of Avril in KL.

Asian Food Channel (AFC) : “Spice of Life with Bal Arnerson”

Asian Food Channel (AFC) is hosting celebrity chef, Bal Arnerson’s “Bal Arnerson’s Spice Adventure” tour of Asia in her Malaysia’s leg of her journey which will later cover Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia as well.
In her tour which will start from 7th till the 24th of August 2014, the host of “Spice of Life with Bal Arnerson” and “Spice Goddess” which airs on Astro’s AFC (channel 703) will host a series of dinner and demonstration events for corporate clients, media and fans.
