Crazy Penguin, Kota Damansara : Free coffee with a bingsu

2 weeks back I was at Rimba & Rusa for a cuppa with friends.
Rimba and Rusa is at the new Sunway Nexis; a mixed development of residential and commercial; the sort of new mixed commercial space that also includes two tower blocks for offices.

The architecture incorporates a lot of greenery and interior landscaping into the overall design, making the space look vast and feels uncluttered, thus encouraging leisurely idling at its retail or F & B stores.

There isn’t much currently except for Rimba and Rusa, The Rail Canteen and a cute ice parlour that goes by the name Crazy Penguin.

Korean Food Fair 2015 @ Mid Valley – halal & pork free Korean food/drinks/ingredients

When I was told of this particular halal-focused fair on Korean food, I was immediately intrigued.
Korea is a hot travel destination for Malaysians; undeniably fabulous for food, amazing for shopping, trusted for cosmetic procedures and eye-opening for cultural and history pursuits.

I was a regular Korean tourist last year, with 2 -3 trips hosted by KTO Malaysia and Korean Air as well as trips with Air Asia X to Busan & Jeju.
When I posted about my adventures on my social sites (Insta, FB) my Muslim friends and followers would comment on their concern in regards to dining options and would ask if I could recommend halal dining joints.

New chef, new menu @ Senja, The Saujana Hotel KL

The dine and wine scene at The Saujana is interesting right now.
Just last week I met Chef Ryan Arboleda and was given an insight of the Modern Asian twists he had incorporated into The Restaurant @ The Club menu.
Though I had a bit of a jolt, for I was used to the strict Modern European cuisine of the previous chef, the change looks set to impact The Restaurant in an compelling way.

This week 36 year-old Italian native Chef Emiliano di Stefano showcased his new menu where he injected the true warmth of Italian flavours using quintessentially Italian ingredients such as tomatoes, garlic and olives to Senja; as it is already a well established Italian restaurant.

Having worked around the world in various established hotels for 18 years, Chef isn’t one to be easily shocked with new flavours and ingredients.
As a matter of fact, Chef is familiar with Asian flavours!

Casa Cacao – chocolate salon on Telawi : decadent chocolate desserts, waffles, brunch

Bangsar is almost my second home.

Want to shop or eat/chill out? You can go wrong being at the Telawi and Bangsar Villages vicinity.
Need to go low cost?
There are several mamaks around while Lucky Garden and the TMC area are good bets with numerous Chinese coffeeshops offering everything from Sarawak Laksa to Chicken Rice and dim sum.
Even for the extreme budget conscious Malaysians, the row of stalls near the famous Anuar fish head curry should be able to satisfy any appetite.

I go to my gym in the mornings and I’ll hang around until late afternoon at one of the cafes or even mamaks just so I stay out the whole day.
Staying out forces me to be more productive; for I’m finding my own office a bit too comfortable lately!

The Restaurant, Saujana Hotel : exploring the new menu by Chef Ryan Arboleda

My memories of The Restaurant will always be strongly tied to the previous chef who had done a fantastic job with the menu and had bought an unsurpassed dining experience with his genuine hospitality and cooking skills.

Tonight I walked into The Restaurant for the first time to meet his successor, and naturally, expectations were in place.

To cut the long story short, Chef Ryan has bought his own expertise into the picture, and The Restaurant now features a reinvented menu that is a clever play of Asian spices married with Western cooking techniques.
There will be lingering memories of the previous chef’s strong modern European cuisine for those who are familiar with his style, but The Restaurant is now ready for a sail in a fresh direction, and as Chef Ryan has demonstrated with the dishes served that evening, the change can be an interesting, stimulating journey.

A native Filipino, Chef Ryan Arboleda grew up in New Zealand and had 14 years of experience in the culinary industry.
That evening, he showcased his Asian touch in a myriad of Modern Asian Street Tapas with a mix & match of tapas dishes ranging from hot and cold versus traditional and new.

To fix your lobsters cravings: Steaks & Lobsters @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Where do you head to to enjoy lobsters in the Klang Valley?
Specialty seafood restaurants like Unique Seafood? Lobsterman? Chinese restaurants? Restaurants within hotels? Red Lobster?

I don’t indulge in lobster often, and on average I eat lobster perhaps 3 -4 times a year, usually at events or buffets or during a food tasting.
Lobster just doesn’t strike most of us as an “ once a week treat“, simply because of the general impression that lobster are expensive.
Steaks suffered a similar fate for a long while, but now there are many outlets making angus, wet aged & even wagyu steaks affordable enough for the mid-income earners, so why not lobsters?
