Mooncakes 2015: Durian showskin, Red Velvet, Banana Choc & traditional mooncakes at Ti Chen, Saujana Golf & Country Club

Enjoying pork free dim sum here is a good option for those who wish to dine in zen surrounded by the greens of the Saujana area.
In fact, the Saujana is a mere 5 minutes drive from Oasis and Citta Mall. Parking at any of its resorts here is easy and between the The Club, the Saujana Golf and Country Club and the Saujana Hotel itself, several main cuisines of the world are well represented; namely European, Japanese, Asian, contemporary Asian, Italian as well as Chinese.
In fact the little known Charcoal Restaurant specialises in charcoal-grilled items (think steaks and seafood) plus a sprinkiling of delectable Peranakan cuisine.

For Cantonese fine dining, Ti Chen aims to excite with its fine dim sum, extensive Cantonese ala-carte dishes and for further stimulation to the palate, Chef Sam Lu surprises with carefully crafted creations such as the applewood chip smoked roasted duck and deep fried scallops with banana and taro paste.
I’m not entirely sure how scallops are paired with banana and taro, but I’ll try to find out soon!

Mooncakes - ti chen saujana

For this visit, Chef prepared some dim sum to satiate our hunger while his team took the time to surprise us with an elaborate display of 8 baked mooncakes and 4 snowskin creations.

The Huskitory Cafe, Melaka : doggy cafe in Melaka

Out of the many cafes at Melaka one that is worth visiting is The Huskitory Cafe.

Its location isn’t as convenient as Taman Asean is quite a drive away (about 20 minutes from Jonker area) from Malacca city but its unique disposition makes it a novelty.

After all, how many dog cafes are there in Malaysia?
Maybe 4 -5 in the Klang Valley but none are huskies-specific. And for Melaka, this is the only pet cafe (no cat cafes as yet) in the state.

McDonalds Malaysia – Spinach and Lychee Pie – review

I have to be extremely curious to step into a McDonalds.

And this time I was curious enough, since there are not one, but TWO (2) new items!

And both are “sides“, not main burgers. I had thought it was funny that 2 sides were introduced simultaneously.

Anyhow the reason to try the lychee pie was because of its name.
If you know Hokkien (specifically Hokkien foul words) or if you are a Malaysian who curse, you would have an idea of what “lychee pie” means when both words were spoken fast.

So after a long day of shoot and merely surviving on a salad box yesterday, I decided that it was a good time as any to clock up some calories.

Nara Kitchen & Co, Uptown Damansara – great, wholesome food, good service, fair prices

My breakfast one Saturday at Nara Kitchen was satisfying, so much so that I thought it warranted a return visit, which I promptly made very next day.

There are few, if any outlet that are able to please a diner with every dish on the menu.
Hence the variety in the menu, and even then it could be a play of luck for one to order the exact dish that you will enjoy.

Purradise (cat) Cafe & Woof Woof (dog) Cafe TTDI

Cat or Dog?
Which is your pick?

I’m a dog lover through and through.
If situation had been more favourable I would have been the proud owner of a dog (or many).
Sadly my current (and in foreseeable future) direction in life doesn’t permit the room nor time for one.
Rather then having an animal in my care suffering from neglect, I had chosen to play with dogs owned by others.

Desa Park City on weekends evenings are great for dog-watching. If the owners are kind, you might even get to play and hug their dogs.

The recent rise of animal friendly cafes are well-received with both dog/cat owners and animal lovers.
In TTDI alone, there are 2 cafes cum animal play space for felines and canines.

I was naturally excited about this development as it provides an option for feline and canine fans.
And the even better news is, both cafes are within walking distance of each other!

****************************************************************************************************************

Purradise Cafe is located on the 1st floor of the shoplots on the same row as Pickle and Fig and McDonalds.
Likewise, Woof Woof Cafe is situated on the 1st floor, but on the same row as Devi’s and Grumpy Cyclist.

This is where the similarities end.

Sadly (as of 23rd Aug 2015) Woof Woof Cafe doesn’t seem to be attracting the crowd it deserves.
We visited on a Sunday at 2pm and the entire cafe is empty. The only person on duty is a girl who couldn’t communicate in English, or if I were to be kind, I could say that she is shy.
Whatever it is, this doesn’t augur well for the business.

Koru Cafe, Empire Damansara – New Zealand inspired cafe

Let’s began today’s cafe post with a little bit of background of the cafe’s name; Koru.

At first Koru sounded to me like a name picked out on whim for its simplicity and ease of pronunciation, or perhaps because it sounded cute.

But no, Koru means “loop” in Māori and this loop refers to the spiral shape based on the contour of a new unfurling silver fern frond.
It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattoos and symbolizes new life, growth, strength and peace.

Surprised?
Well, I was too.

Spot the koru? 🙂

Awesome Canteen, Paramount PJ – paleo, gluten free dining option

When I first visited Awesome Canteen when they opened years back I wasn’t impressed with the food nor the hype surrounding its paleo burger.
But it is the first outlet that markets this as one of its main menu items, resulting in paleo and non-paleo eaters ordering it more out of curiosity than anything else (or so I think).

Reviews of its food was mixed since, but it has undisputedly garnered its legion of fans over the years, as seen from the brand’s expansion to Penang while the Paramount outlet is steadily welcoming customers, both old and new.
They made next door Prologue, its porky sister Japanese restaurant offering bentos and ramen.
So yes, Awesome Canteen has continued being awesome for their fans!
