Lotus Curry House, Aman Suria – Banana Leaf Rice

Though not as popular, or often mentioned in the same breath as it’s more famous counterparts (ie; Kanna, Nirwana’s @ Bangsar, Devi’s @ TTDI & Sri Paandi’s or Annalakshmi & Vishals),  Lotus Curry House actually serves pretty decent Banana Leaf Rice.

The one I frequent, which happens to be in close proximity to my place, is the one at Aman Suria. I believe Lotus Curry House has quite a chain of branches as well, but I like it here as it’s newer, cleaner and usually not as crowded with people (previous statement reworded in respect to a reader’s feedback).

There’s 2 section to the dining area, one air-conditioned and another “alfresco” where the dishes, drinks station, frying station and roti-making stations are located. Tables are spaciously laid out and the place doesn’t reek of grease or sweat.

Most importantly, the dishes displayed are hot, freshly cooked and replenished pretty fast, especially during lunch/dinner hour. Hence the dishes are not left for long hours on display, minimising the risk of food poisoning.

Tommy Le Baker @ Viva Residency, Jalan Ipoh – Breads & Pastries

A self professed bread-whore, I love my breads and very little cheers me more (food-wise) than a good, hearty, freshly baked loaf.

Thankfully for me (or maybe for all of us as well) a good number of artisanal bakeries sprouted up recently. I have been on the prowl, visiting each and stocking up on the breads. That probably explains why I’m ballooning, though these wheaty, bran-y baked goods are supposedly good carbs.

Indulgence Restaurant & Living, Ipoh – my Designer Breakfast the morning after

I woke up this morning and asked myself “What’s for breakfast?”.

Immediately visions of thick fluffy french toast and poached eggs came to mind. I’m a huge huge fan of western breakfast. Give me toast, eggs, sausages and muesli anytime. Other than the occasional nasi lemak & dim sum, my immediate preference for breakfast is Continental or American.

It was while I was pondering where to head to for a good American fry-up did flashbacks of my indulgent Ipoh trip came into mind.
Oh, I love Indulgence Restaurant and Living. I love my Qatrynka suite and I love my wonderful breakfast the day after.
Let me share with you the breakfast that awaits me when I woke up from my slumber on the four-poster bed.

RAW Coffee – Real and Wholesome Coffee, Wisma Equity Jalan Ampang

When a coffee workshop becomes another experience entirely…

I have been to RAW coffee twice prior to this visit and I loved the place.
Oh, I haven’t blogged about it; simply because like all my other blogposts, it’s been sitting in drafts for like ….forever.. yes, cos I’ve been busy, REALLY BUSY.

But when an email came from Michael, (and it was a very adroit and articulately worded one too), I made exception to my “stay-home easy Sunday” policy to drive into the heart of KL; curious to meet the man behind the cafe/email, as well as to deepen my knowledge about coffee.

Upon arrival at RAW Coffee, we were asked if there was anything that we’d like to have, which we did order some sandwiches and soya milk (having coffee right before a coffee workshop is asking for caffeine OD, literally) since I haven’t had breakfast. Also, I had the sandwiches here before and I liked how they prepare it, healthy & fresh ingredients in wholemeal-based bread.

My order: Pumpkin Hummus and Veg Sandwich.

Acme Bar & Coffee, Troika

So while everyone enjoyed their reunion dinners at home and ate Chinese, I steered clear of any Asian food for my reunion session. I had way too many yee sang and 8 course meals for the 2 weeks prior to CNY and was actually dying for something European and fancy.

Hence with my little family, I suggested Acme Bar and Coffee at Troika since I have read and heard raving reviews about the food.

I can tell you upfront that my meal was less than impressive. Or perhaps that’s the problem when you walked in with high expectations.
