Silver Spoon Trattoria @ Wisma Menjalara, Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

I have expected nothing less than stellar food for this session considering that I have been following Ms Jazz’s blog for a while. She is quite a food connoisseur herself, having been out of the country (it does broadens one’s culinary buds right?) as well as a regular patron in most fine dining restaurants.
Her reviews were pretty critical as well as honest. Which brings me to Silver Spoon Trattoria, her very own family establishment. One wouldn’t expect anything less than the best.

For example, the Chef is Chef Ken, who was the same Chef @ Ken’s cafe previously. Apparently he has quite a reputation.

And he is famous for his Tiramisu, or so I heard. Well, I find the Creme Brule (RM14) too sweet, the tiramisu (RM16) OK, intoxicatingly infused with alcohol (great for alcoholics) and the Choc Pot (RM15) a perfect medley of flavor and texture (mousse-like) but wonderfully rich. Yes, the chocolate pot is my favourite.

Why always Carlsberg & Tiger? Do check out craft beers @Craft Brews, Mutiara Damansara!

My first visit here was at their “opening night for bloggers” back in Oct 2009.

I remembered enjoying the salted egg plants chips and the ribs. But someone ordered the burger & said it was mediocre. Well, I’m glad to say it’s much better NOW !

Anyhow, months later, I’m glad to be back & to see the crowd growing strong. Admittedly I didn’t think it would have lasted this long.

Then we sat down with Ben, the marketing whiz of Craft Brews, & as the night progressed, I could see why. Ben blew me away with his wealth of knowledge in beers, his passion in his job as well as his affability towards his customers.

Indeed admirable, for one do realised, if there is no passion in what you do, nothing worthy will materialise.

Both of us (me & UnkaLeong) enjoyed the session immensely; & I learnt so much. Dear Hsu Jen provided charming company. Thanks so much gal, for the invite!

Oh, by the way..this place is dog – friendly too! 😉 Dogs lovers rejoice!

Craft Brews : The Food

Note: We started the night with some craft beers but since the post is not ready yet, I’ve decided to post on the food 1st.

Food arrived soon after the beers; which was a blessing because the alcohol was gnawing at my stomach linings.

A complimentary cup of piquant Minestrone – like soup started us off on the right note & set the precedence for the sinful array of food ahead.

My favourites 😛 were the Spiced sausages in bacon skins (RM18), Caramelized Roast Pork II (200g of siew yoke!! – RM16) and Crispy Bacon Streaks (RM14).

Surabaya food in KL?? Got… in Dataran Sunway Mentari!

According to an Indonesian foodie, Selba, Indonesia food is an exciting, tongue teasing medley of flavours. Surabaya is East Java, with its cuisine predominantly salty/savoury, Yogyakarta is Central Java, usually sweeter on the palate while Bandung is West Java, neither sweet nor salty (huh?) & the ever famous Balinese food that we KL-ites have come to know of  (thanks to the same company that runs Ole Ole Bali, Bumbu Bali & The Waterlily – I call it unfair monopolisation! )  is spicy and pungent.

While I am still on the hunt for fellow foodies to try The Uma at The Strand (which is non-halal), I was alerted about a new restaurant in town. Some excited mentions on Twitter got my interest, and a further link send to my Facebook gave me all the details I need. Social Media, how would one live without it, especially now.  Heck, recently I have been hijacking recipes by copying someone’s tweets 😉

The restaurant was pretty easy to find, even for a directionally challenged individual like me.
