I posted earlier this week about my sneak preview dinner at the highly anticipated soon-to-be-open Restaurant Darren Chin and had many messages over my social sites about the menu.

On the night of our exclusive dinner, there was no menu except for what was to be served to us.
However, just to give you insight of what to expect from Chef Darren who is also the main genius behind the Dave’s Bistro in 1 U (earlier review here –> https://rebeccasaw.com/daves-bistro-grill-1-utama-pork-pizza-pasta/) here’s the menu and pictures of the dishes we enjoyed that evening.

Japanese Buffet – Tatsu, Intercontinental Hotel – 88 Dishes for RM98++!

The title of the post got your attention yes?

Hahah.. I know it would!  😀

Admit it, most of us love a good Japanese buffet. There might be many such buffets in KL, but very few offers both quality and value.

Thus this is precisely why the recent 88 dishes for RM98++ ala carte Japanese buffet at Tatsu stood out from the pack. I have heard and read from many who enthusiastically extolled of their meals here. And for the first time, just last Saturday, I stepped into Tatsu to verify those claims myself.

Below are the straightforward and simple terms and conditions for the deal:

1. How much -: RM98++ per adult and RM49++ for children 6-12 years old.

2. What’s available – Menu: A total of 88 dishes including soups, rice, soba, udon, handrolls, makis, sushi, top grade sashimi, salads, teppanyaki, hot pots..the list goes on.

3. When – validity: Lunch & Dinner (Sat, Sun and Public Holidays) – 12pm to 2.15pm, 6.30 – 10.15pm

The Apartment @ The Curve – “Taste the Ocean” menu by the Home Chef series

The Apartment has recently launched its new themed promotional menu titled the Home Chef series. Through this promotion, the Apartment will offer patrons a limited time menu focusing on special creations by the restaurant’s in house chefs based on a particular food theme.

IKEA Swedish Meatballs – Ikea Singapore vs Ikea Malaysia

One of the things I like to do when I’m in other countries is to visit a food chain; especially those that has branches or franchises in more than 1 country.

Besides providing appealing content for a blogpost; it’s an interesting eye-opener to myself as well as my blog readers to know how in other countries, food chains tailors their menus to suit a specific country and it’s food culture.

A while back I was in Sg for a quick trip. Someone told me Ikea Singapore serves pork on it’s menu. Even better, that person told me specifically there are pork meatballs!
So yes, I hopped into Ikea just to have the meatballs. Don’t ask me if the furniture stock in Ikea Singapore is any different from the ones in Malaysia. I wouldn’t know! But I do know that the meatballs is different!  😀

Usher in the Year of the Rabbit @ Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant, One World Hotel

Chinese New Year 2011 is in less than 3 weeks !! Man, I’ve got to say this cliched statement “Time sure flies!“. 😉
We have now come to that time of the year again, where the ubiquitous Yee Sang makes it’s appearance during every dinner in every restaurant.

I’m not complaining of course. On the contrary, I’m actually looking forward to some boisterous CNY dinners with my friends to usher in a new beginning in this year of the Rabbit.  :yes:
To start the ball rolling (or the tossing going ) I tossed my first Yee Sang at Zuan Yuan, One World Hotel just last week.

To the uninitiated, yee sang is not so much about eating the dish but more of the food-play as the key element of the “yee sang” involves tossing the ingredients as high as possible and mixing it all vigorously while shouting out loud all the positive vibes & wishes you desire for the coming year.
This is a very auspicious act as it portends to financial and personal success where future ventures will hopefully “rise and reach high levels”.

“For $! For better health! For better opportunities in life! Toss it all high, higher & higher!!”

Celestial Court – Sheraton Imperial, KL. Fancy your Cantonese cuisine with some wine?

Once upon a time, beverages at Chinese dinners meant only chinese tea/beers. Sarsi/Orange would be the default for the underaged. And as dinner progressed, bottles of Stout may appear. Next to follow were likely to be brandy or whisky.

The scenario is certainly different now. Most Chinese  restaurants now serves wine with their dishes; or at the very least, there are wine options available in their menu. Fruit juices & Coke replaced Sarsi & orange.

Celestial Court at Sheraton Imperial is one of the grand old dame of Cantonese fine dining restaurants in KL. I have heard tales of “how good it was last time” & til now, I’m still hearing the same positive reviews from these 30- 40 y/old friends who had dined there back then.
A recommended feat indeed, to have stood against the test of time & also the proliferation of millions of (Ok, I’m exaggerating here) Chinese restaurants in town.
