Dim Sum at Dragon Gate Dim Sum Restaurant, Kota Damansara

I would love it if all of you could share with me your favourite dim sum joints, as I do love my dim sum and it’s something that I can eat everyday if time permits!
A favourite of many is the one at Jalan Ipoh, which frankly I won’t eat there even if you pay me to.
Another is the chain of Jin Xuan and Hong Kee. I find Jin Xuan “Ok” but rated a “No-no” for Hong Kee.

Surprisingly I have not tried many of the dim sum in the hotels, though I reviewed a lot of hotel buffets, CNY dinners and F & B promotions. I’m getting a Starwood card soon, and that should cover some of the hotels I that I planned to sample for their dim sum!

I have no idea where to head to for my weekend dim sum fix this morning. But last week, by popular suggestion, this Dragon Gate outlet was recommended by a few friends. Intrigued, I headed over to test it out myself.

I like the large, spacious outlet and the outdoor dining space immediately. We were served pretty quick, but do note that I was pretty early as well; turning up at about 8.30am.

Super Delight Dim Sum House @ Aman Suria – really good dim sum!

For me, this is one of the better dim sum house around the area of PJ, Tropicana and Aman Suria.

Newly opened, it has amassed quite a following in its short period of business. The reason is apparent. The dim sum is tasty and it is not too expensive.

I find most, if not all (or at least for the ones I have sampled) of their dim sum really good, well prepared and wonderfully fresh.

Golden Phoenix, Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur – Chinese New Year Menu & Dim Sum!

This marks my virginal visit to Golden Phoenix at Equatorial Hotel.

I missed the CNY preview last week no thanks to some unforeseen circumstances. By a happy chance, I managed to slot in a dim sum lunch here earlier this week where I got to sample a few items from the CNY set in addition to dainty morsels of the Chef’s specialty dim sum.

To start off lunch, we lou-ed another Yee Sang; effectively marking my 15th Yee Sang of the year. Oh, I’m certainly set for 2012. Imagine all that prosperity coming my way! LOL.

Tai Zi Heen, Prince Hotel KL – All You Can Eat Dim Sum Buffet

Prince Hotel KL Chinese Restaurant Tai Zi Heen offers a pretty value for money HALAL dim sum buffet at RM55++ (RM63.00 nett) on weekends. Starting from 1130am to 2pm, order & staple as much you could from its moderately extensive menu.

As with all buffets, there are hit & misses. Naturally, we hoped for more of the former than the latter.

Even with our expectations in check since we are all aware that this is halal fare, the general consensus among the 4 of us was “Ok“, “you get what you pay for“, “decent“; with some dishes bordering on inedible (our personal opinions ok) & some “good“.

Let’s begin with the GOOD:

Egg tarts were flaky & light with sweet centres. The Crispy corn flake-crusted tuna rolls were my fav. Crusty cornflakes encasing flaky tuna with chilli & chopped corn/carrots is hard to beat 😉 .
