At Serena Brasserie, Intercontinental Hotel KL, the live stations were impressive.

Ramdhan Buffet- Intercontinental Hotel 2012-001

Smoking hot satay and whole lamb aside, there was a teppanyaki counter and a BAKAR-BAKAR ALA KAMPUNG (Melaka) station that dishes out fat stuffed ikan kembung/cencaru (mackerel) and marinated stingrays in piquant air asam dan cili kicap. Here, you have a flock of diners perpetually in queue.

Frankly, this took my breath away as one of the most extensive buffet ever, with so many dishes at each section that I shook my head in disbelief as I kept on taking picture after picture, all the while wondering when it will end so I can finally “break fast”.

Below: Just the appetisers (tossed raw salads – kerabu) section alone offers about 15 different trays of kerabu.

This Ramadhan buffet at Maytower was one of my favourites last year. When I receive the preview invite few weeks back, I was ecstatic. Oh yes, flashback of the lamb, satay and the amazing assam grilled fish came to mind and I gulped down my drool in anticipation.

In fact, over dinner I was reminded of the video I did last year for the Ramadhan buffet! Here is it:

Unfortunately, I gave up doing videos this year. I barely have enough time to write; not to mention picture editing so I can’t imagine doing videos as well. 🙁

I visit Cinnamon Coffee House quite regularly. The proximity of it to my office and home plays a part and so does dealing with the wonderful people from One World Hotel.

Over time and many visits I realized that while the variety improved; some stations remained a hit and miss. The spread however, offers good value for money and One World’s Cinnamon Coffee House has always been renowned for the fantastic and diversified selection.

Ramadan is 2 weeks away!!
Here’s a compilation of all the Ramadan buffets I sampled back in 2011, all within 1-2 weeks. And no, I didn’t put on any weight, thanks to exercise and portion control 😛

I missed out on quite many others as I was hospitalised for a good 2 weeks during the Ramadan month for suspected UTI. But there was no conclusive results so it was really a waste of $$ and time! 🙁

Anyways, I love the lambs, the curries, the desserts and quite simply, the spread for every buffet that I went! And you know what? It’s the time again for Ramadan (actually it starts on 18th July) so let the feasting BEGIN! 🙂

Shanghai Sunday Brunch at Shook! in Starhill Gallery – RM268++

The Masquerades Sunday Brunch at Shook! which started last year in November was fabulous. The set-up, the costumes, the fanfare of spectacular colours and projected personalities; it was such an amazing idea and offers an experience so entirely unique from anywhere else in Malaysia.

Bubbly and food flowed freely from 12.00 noon to 5.00 pm, the longest Sunday Bubbly Brunch yet in KL. For RM168++ (food only) and RM268++ with free-flow champagne, I thought it was value for money. Heck, make that VERY value for money.

To keep things fresh, Shook! has done it again but with a different theme; not any lesser in grandeur and even matching the impressive set-up of the Masquerade Sunday Brunch.
This time, Shook! takes us back to the opulence era of Shanghai, the captivating and historical city of China.

Loyal readers of my blog would have realized that I seldom, if ever at all, blog about steamboats.

Well, I’m just not a fan of soup-based meals.
And steamboats are to me, a messy and ardous affair. I’m not one of those who enjoys the “cook as you eat” or “cook-your-own” meal ala Pepper Lunch sort.
If I’m out for a meal, please serve me my order piping hot and all ready for me to tuck in, thank you very much. Besides, I’m an impatient person so I always ended up eating half-cooked fishballs during steamboats as I dug them out before they are thoroughly cooked. :p

Also, steamboat meals are of prolonged periods since it’s not possible to just chow down your one-portion dish and leave immediately after. Portion controls are difficult too as the trend for steamboat meals now are eat-all-you-can buffets or sets meals for a minimum of 2 pax.

Having said that, a steamboat meal is best savoured with a group of friends, gossiping over the bubbling pot and sipping the soup after an hour or so of cooking. The soup is much tastier and richer after having all the ingredients thrown in for the last hour.
