Mornings at Astaka Taman Tun Sardon is a foodie’s dream.
There are so many stalls dishing out so many scrumptious food for breakfast that it’s a shame this place is not as well patronised as some of the famous outlets in town. I guess it’s location can be challenging to some; but if you can spare the time Astaka Taman Tun Sardon is really worth the effort.

Now if you’ve missed the morning session (my post on that is next!), fret not as Sulaiman chapati would keep you happily satiated for tea time. Besides Sulaiman, other options includes 4-5 stalls along the outer ring of food court selling fried spring rolls (popia goreng), fried snacks such as fishballs, etc as well as beverages stalls hawking soya bean and cincau.

But it was Sulaiman’s chapati that drew the crowd.

From a simple hawker stall back when it started in 1992, Sany Char Kuey Teow is now a proper eatery with an open kitchen and its own floor space.
They have a big signboard up, but since it isn’t exactly a brick and mortar restaurant or outlet your best landmark is the Penang Snake Temple in Bayan Lepas.
It is an open air, roofed eatery just a few steps away.

Teluk Kumbar is quite a distance from Georgetown but Ayu Mee Udang is worth the drive if you can spare the time and if you have willing company.
A standard bowl with a choice of kuey teow, mee hoon, mee or maggi mee or even fried rice plus 3 large prawns starts from RM14.00.
The Mee Udang Special is RM22 while the largest portion labeled “Mee Udang Mangkuk” is RM39.00.

What: Banquet style dining as Hatten Hotel doesn’t have a Chinese restaurant. Pork free.
What to order here: This review is particularly for the 2014 CNY set menus so do refer to the menus and prices in the attached menu below.
I love every dish served this evening.
Overall experience: This is my 1st time savouring Chef Kelvin’s chinese dishes and I’m impressed!
Price: RM99.80++ to RM138.80++ per pax.
Valid: 25th January 2014 – 14th February 2014.

From KL/PJ I had the good tidings to lou sang all the way to Melaka town.
The Hatten Hotel Melaka is a 700+ rooms property located right smack in Melaka town. The view from my room on the 20th floor looks over the azure pool and the shopping malls within its vicinity.

This is truly a great Nyonya kuih recommendation by Daniel.
I missed it on my previous trip so I made sure I was there by 3.30pm this time. True enough, even at that early hour (operational hours are 3-5 pm or when all are sold out, whichever earlier) on a Friday evening, business was brisk and supply was already running low.

After my previous post (read HERE –> What to eat in Melaka – Baba Charlie) some argued that Baba Charlie is too commercialized and overrated.
Well, I’m all for constructive feedback so thank you to those who said so. 🙂
This then bought me to my question; surely there are other masters of nyonya kuih making in this heritage rich albeit getting-too-commercial for my taste city? As it is I’m having difficulty getting good, authentic Nyonya cuisine here so pray tell me that delectable nyonya kuih is not a fast disappearing art too?

I had wanted “Nyonya food” for lunch on this 2 days trip.
So the 1st day was at Makko; just because David, my partner for the trip insisted that Makko’s chendol is good.

But we were too early so we headed to Jeta Groves for a quick snack before lunch.
