There are easily about 15 stalls offering a plethora of local specialities here.
Halal “lok-lok” – skewers of fishballs, meatballs, vegetables or meat on wood sticks cooked in boiling water and eaten with chilli and peanut paste are not commonly available and Padang Brown is one of the few places where the Muslims are able to enjoy this.

The Padang Kota Lama aka Esplanade is next to the famous Fort Cornwallis in Penang. On one end is this foodcourt, aptly named Padang Kota Lama as well.
Just opposite is the sidewalk by the sea where you can enjoy both the refreshing breeze and view.

I was amazed when I was told by a friend that there is an outlet in Penang serving “the best mee goreng” she has ever tasted. Now, we all know that “best” is subjective but the curiosity levels tripled when I found out that it is the “jiao sai” mee goreng.
The hokkiens would know what that means but if you don’t understand Hokkien then let me translate for you. “Jiao siao” is literally “bird shit”.
The fact that this particularly distasteful branding actually works in their favour is astonishing. We are literally associating shit and glorious (so they claimed about this mee goreng) food directly in this case and people actually find that acceptable?

There are some really great finds here at Astaka Taman Tun Sardon. I’m not talking about just nasi lemak, roti canai, sup bihun; though that was all available in abundance, and much much tastier than any versions you’ll get elsewhere.

Nearby Queensbay Mall and Gold Coast Condominium this “ikan bakar” business has flourished from mere stalls to a large food court. There are only 3 main proprietors; Seri Pantai, Hammer Bay and Anggerik Biru.
Parking is at the open air carpark and diners would have to walk further to the beach area where the food court is located.
It is clean, brightly lit and the seating arrangements are either in the open air area or the inner covered food court.
