Samsung Digital Imaging Launch 2011 – “Life, from All Angles” – Samsung Multiview MV800

When I was told to attend the Samsung Digital Imaging Launch 2011 about a week back, I thought it was just all about the MV800 Multi-View point & shoot camera.

A quick Google reviewed some pictures & interesting specs; and I thought it was a nice camera to have; something in continuity from their ST700 and PL120 range – where it’s all about dual-view & the ability to take (front facing) “cam-whoring” pictures of yourself.
Taking it up a notch, the MV800 has a Flip-out Touch Display that allow users to frame the perfect shot or portrait, from any angle.

I certainly didn’t expect to step into a cinema hall & saw a collection of not 1, but 4 new cameras plus an ultra affordable camcorder on display!

Ten Japanese Fine Dining, Solaris Dutamas

First launched on the Gold Coast, Australia, the award-winning Japanese Fine Dining restaurant “Ten” has now arrived in Malaysia.

As befitted its standing, Ten was officiated by YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali on the 13th of Oct 2011 at Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.

If that’s not impressive enough, Chef Hiroyuki Sakai of the Iron Chef fame was there in person during our special media luncheon, supervising the kitchen, our meals and ~~camwhoring~~ mingling with the invited guests.

MIGF 2011 – West Lake Garden Chinese Restaurant, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa

Chinese Master Chef, Chan Choo Kean has never cease to amaze me with his culinary creations & creativity streak.
During the rice dumplings festival, I savoured his whopping 3kg rice dumpling; plus an array of skillfully prepared desserts.

Then I returned again for his delectable Shuang Wei Mooncakes; all of which were incredibly good, especially the novel ones like Snow Skin Green Tea with Royal Milk Tea and Mocha Paste, Golden Baked Low Sugar White Lotus Paste with Salted Dried Shrimp & Snow Skin Chocolate Whisky Paste.

That’s Master Chef Chan’s specialty I guess; his touch & ability to create new blend of flavours that works each time. Some chefs does it well, though most chefs’ efforts tend to turn out disastrous.
In Chef Chan’s case, it has been consistently stellar so far!

The sumptuous platter that whets the appetite.

“PAINT IT PURPLE” CHARITY CUPCAKE PARTY 2011 by The Pixel Project

The ‘Paint it Purple‘ charity cupcake party 2011 will be organized by the Women’s Aid Organisation (www.wao.org.my) and The Pixel Project (www.thepixelproject.net), a global volunteer-led virtual non profit organisation working to end violence against women.

Cupcake party details are as follow:

Date: Saturday, 15 October 2011
Time: 2.30pm (Registration: 2.00pm)
Venue: The Academy of Pastry Arts, Malaysia, Lot 2-A, 2nd Floor, Wisma Thrifty, No. 19, Jalan Barat, 46200 Petaling Jaya
Donation amount: RM40 per Adult – includes a box of 4 special ‘Paint It Purple’ launch cupcakes, tea, coffee and a cupcake demo session courtesy of the Academy of Pastry Arts Malaysia.
Dress code: Please come dressed in your best purple outfits!

MIGF 2011 – Mandarin Grill, Mandarin Oriental KL

In continuation of my MIGF exploit here in Mandarin Oriental, I headed over to Mandarin Grill right after my Lai Po Heen MIGF dinner (review–> HERE), to be acquitted with the new chef at helm, the young but capable Chef Reto Weber.

True to be told, though I’m a big lover of steaks, my previous visit (review –> HERE ) did not make an impression. I have not been back since.

MIGF 2011 :

Appetizer

Diver scallops, ricotta dumplings and tomatoes with olives

Competently prepared. But boring.

However, it’s definitely time for a re-visit; as I have a hunch that the new chef will shake things up a little in here and I’m looking forward to (hopefully) new recipes/items on the Mandarin Grill menu.
