Fun times in Jeju Island – Alive Museum, Teddy Bear Museum

While I’m sorting through the glorious pictures of beaches, majestic volcano peaks and mysterious lava caves let me keep you entertained with some funny and light-hearted pictures of some of the attractions we went during our Air Asia X trip.

The Teddy Bear Museum is a popular attraction. Great hang out venue for couples, families and well, just about anyone who has a thing for teddy bears. I’m more on the nature side of things, and would probably spend all my days hiking, cycling, running, swimming on the beach and then pig out crazily on Jeju pigs; but it is understandable that a media trip should cover all aspects of a place; for we are not only writing for ourselves, but for all our readers as well.
Besides, I know there some of you who are teddy bear crazy! 🙂

The famous and popular Penang Char Koay Teow at Siam Road – charcoal fried, duck egg

I don’t quite get the hype of this Siam Road char koay teow. I was in Penang earlier this year for a trip with Berjaya Air and queued an hour for my char koay teow here. What I got for my endurance was though undeniably a plate of fragrant and delicious koay teow, it was way greasier than a good CKT should be.

What to eat in Jeju Island: Local food – Black Pork on Black Pork (Heuk Dwaeji) Street

What better post to start off my Jeju adventures if not for food? And this particular delicacy is a Jeju specialty; aptly named the Jeju Black Pig, a breed of domestic pig found on the Korean island.

The Jeju Black Pig is a small pig with black skin (hence the name) with smooth coat of hair. It has erect, unfolded ears and a narrow snout.

Hawker Centres in Penang – Padang Brown Popiah, Char Koay Teow, Roti Babi and Yong Tau Foo

Part of Penang’s charm is the availability of food at (well, almost) anywhere at anytime.
Usually the dearth of dining options in-between the lunch and dinner hours of 2pm to 7pm is an issue for some areas/states, but in Penang there are plenty of hawker centres that caters to the food loving crowd.
While one can argue that there are independent cafes and the F & B establishments in the shopping malls are open 11am – 10pm, there’s nothing like enjoying fuss-free, CHEAP and authentic local cuisine in a hawker street setting right? 🙂

Penang Char Koay Teow – Jalan Johor Hawker Centre (near Convent Dato Keramat )

On my previous Penang trip, I attempted a char koay teow feat of eating char koay teow from 10 different stalls. All of these were recommendations from people who are living in Penang, or  those who were from Penang and had migrated to KL.
All of these recommendations came from my FB status where I asked my friends for their favourite Penang Char Koay Teow stall.
I’m a Penangite yes, born and bred but I have left the state for almost a decade. I can’t say I know the island very well anymore. In fact being a Penangite means I have my favorites, and it also means I have always stuck to my favorites instead of going around to try the char koay teow from other stalls.

Cronuts in Malaysia – Burps and Giggles Ipoh

I was in Perak (or Ipoh more specifically) 2 weeks back for the Adilfitri celebration with Tourism Malaysia. A good thing about the itinerary was there were a few hours free time in between official engagements, of which naturally I spent those precious hours food hunting.

Whenever I’m in Ipoh I’ve not failed to visit Burps & Giggles. I love the vibe of the place and how I could relax comfortably for hours with a dessert and a drink. Its quirky and colorful interior never failed to bring cheer to my day.

What to eat in Melaka – Baba Charlie Nyonya Kuih of course!

Baba Charlie Nyonya Kuih is a must if you’re visiting Melaka. Operating in a traditional wooden house located in a tiny alley opposite the Masjid Tengkera, the location may be easy to miss; but do look for the red “Baba Charlie” signage on Jalan Tengkera and that will help point you to the right direction.
If all else fail, there’s always GPS/Waze. That would certainly end all your navigational woes. 🙂
