Tiger Lily: Affordable and delicious Thai food in DC Mall, Damansara City!

DC Mall at Damansara City is slowly coming to life.

We were there to support a friend’s venture last week and we took the opportunity to explore the mall.
There is no cinema nor gym and the anchor tenant seems to be Village Grocer. Next year, five-star Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara will be welcoming visitors with 312 exquisite rooms and suites.

This area looks set to be vibrant soon.

For now, the building is quiet and empty and only a handful of eateries and businesses are open.
Parking isn’t free (in case some of you think it may be since it is not officially”opened yet“), the air conditioning cold and the floors dimly lit.

NGAM Tom Yum Noodles @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre

I’ve never had a chance to visit Ngam in Bangsar.
Their time in Bangsar proved to be a short stint and when they shut their doors, I’ve thought I missed my chance.

However, there news that they were merely relocating. And true enough, this week, Ngam resurfaced in 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
Located in the old wing near Popular and Chatime, Ngam is now within walking distance from my home!

So there isn’t an excuse not to visit now, especially when I know someone who is a big fan of tom yum.
Besides, I had wanted to support a friend’s business.

Pla Tong Mookata – Thai BBQ in Bangkok for 139 baht

I went for a super value-for-money meal yesterday evening and as usual I posted about it on my social media channels. Following the post was some queries on the location, the variety of food and etc.
Well, the location is very easy as it is near a BTS Station. 2 BTS stations actually, but the nearest one is Victory Monument, which is about 1 minute stroll away.
Head towards the Century The Movie Plaza and at its opposite row, look for this shop Eat Am Here Bangkok and then walk ahead as Pla Tong Mookata (the Thai BBQ shop) is on the same row.

Aloft Bangkok – Sukhumvit 11 – My vibrant funky room!

I was in Thailand again last week for the World Gourmet Festival 2012, a rather grand annual event held at Four Seasons Hotel in Bangkok. Over 7 days, 8 chefs as well as food and wine specialists from around the world will be preparing the cuisine that made them famous; and for a taste of their sublime creations, you can choose to book yourself a place in one of the dinners/lunches/teas during the week.

It was rather different affair from the World Gourmet Summit in Singapore, but more on that later. 🙂

I touched down on a Wednesday and was whisked into the trendy, dynamic of the Sukhumvit district where my uniquely funky hotel – Aloft Bangkok awaits.

When I got invited to do the review for Soi23, it was a bit of a last minute engagement. But since I have never been to Soi23, it should be a good experience going there and trying out the food. From the invite, there was some expectations of having local favourites as well as some Thai offerings since it is a Ramadhan buffet.

pla dib @ The Heritage Village, Seri Kembangan

Once in a while, up pops an outlet that doesn’t churn out the dreary copy- cat dishes or fusion disasters.

Naturally, such outlets immediately inspires hope, yet anxiety as well, “could it be a fluke?” , ” can the rest of the menu held up to expectations? “.

Hence in bated breath I await for opportunities for subsequent visits while I tuck away the pictures from my first. And to be happily satiated again & again on my return visits simply inspired today’s blog post.

pla dib @ The Heritage Village, Seri Kembangan is one such place. Apparently a franchise from Thailand, pla dib (meaning raw fish in Thai) does Thai fusion and does it damn well.

With the restaurant named after ‘raw fish’, I was hard pressed not to order the Salmon Labb (RM10), a ceviche wannabe dish.

Raw salmon slices doused with shoyu & lime juice, sprinkled with chilli flakes & crushed peanuts made the perfect starter. The fish was at parts raw (sections that weren’t ‘cooked’ by the lime concoction) & parts cooked slightly. Each slice was delightfully tangy, sweet, spicy and sour, a medley of flavours all on the tongue at the same instant. Hmmmm… yummy!

Decadence.. Luxurious.. Opulence and Lavish.

I have always said to NOT expect anything less than the above from any projects from the YTL Group. And that’s exactly what one can anticipate from YTL Corporation’s annual Starhill Gallery’s Midsummer Nights Feast.

A week of fabulous food & wine, paired with music & entertainment to create a convivial, festive experience that CELEBRATES life (Ok, I’m not going to argue with that!) by engaging all the senses & the intellect.
