IDC Ice Dreams Cafe @ Damansara Kim – NEW desserts & flavoured affogato (salted egg yolk)!

I have a stupid question to ask.

Is the heat in the Klang Valley making you sweat buckets, keeping you hidden in air conditioned quarters and got you feeling parched all day?

If the reply to the above a positive “yes“, then I’ll like you to check out IDC Ice Dreams Cafe at Damansara Kim.

Trust me, in this heat I dream of ice all day.
Ice in my drinks, soaking in ice-filled bathtub and working in icy cold rooms. That, and ice cream.

Sabah Tuaran mee in PJ – SS3 – Ah Soon Kor restoran

Many sacrifices are made when one leaves home and migrates to another city, state or country.
Home flavours is one of them. For Penangites we have heard it all the time, they have the best char kuey teow and prawn mee.
For Ipoh it is the hor fun and dim sum. Melaka lay claim on the most authentic Nyonya fare (though I personally find that debatable) while the east coast has their nasi kerabu and lekor.
Sarawak’s laksa and kolo mee are legendary.

Now, what about Sabah?

Other than seafood and fish noodles (I’ve only been to KK twice) I drew a blank myself. It was only nearly a year ago that I knew of “tuaran mee” and that it is available in KL!

A friend who is a Sabahan gushed positively of Ah Soon Kor’s Tuaran mee.
It took me a year to get myself here for I’ve wrongly assumed that the noodles are only available in the mornings. Since weekday mornings is not an option, weekend mornings were all I had.

And trust me, weekend mornings are just as difficult to secure a slot.

The best Salted Egg Yolk Croissant : Where? Le Bread Days/Bake Plan/The Bread Shop?

I had personally thought that other bakeries were slow to pick up on the salted egg yolk croissant craze after the initial uproar for the famed croissants at Le Bread Days.

The Bread Shop at Bukit Damansara rose to the occasion about 3 weeks after the chaos. Sadly feedback was negative from my trusted foodies friends, all citing poor quality for both the croissant itself and the salted egg yolk custard filling.
For the price it was reported to be a poor imitation of Le Bread Days’.

Just as quickly, I lost interest to try it, though I remained curious.

Just last weekend my good friend William alerted me of a similar croissant, this time in Bake Plan SS2.
I wasted no time to get my grubby hands on 3 on a hot Sunday afternoon and happily enough, the effort was it.
I was pretty satisfied with the croissant.

Then another friend gave me an idea. How about a lowdown on all 3 croissants simultaneously? I could then pass out a renewed verdict!

I had thought why not, since that would be the question on everyone’s mind now. Or at least for those who had been following the whole saga from day one.

Dian Huo Xin Wo – good steamboat in PJ – review

It’s been a while since I last had a steamboat meal.

If you don’t already know, I’m very picky with my food. While I can tolerate MSG to a certain extent (well, when you dine out often, you have to!), I tend to steer clear of soup based meals like noodles and steamboat as most proprietors are liberal with the use of MSG to flavour the broth.
Many claimed to be absolutely MSG-free, but I beg to differ after dining at the said outlets.

And thus my steamboat meals are limited to perhaps once a year, and likely one that’s home-based and hosted by a friend.

Best sushi @ Ichiro Sushi Bar – Isetan Eat Paradise, 1 Utama

It has been nearly 20 trips to Ichiro Sushi Bar ever since it opened and hundreds of ringgit spent. This is a post way overdue.

But Ichiro has became such a staple for me, so much so that I’ve taken it for granted. Whenever someone asked for for Japanese food and sushi recommendations, Ichiro is the first name that popped into my mind.
I eat here almost weekly, and have seen its menu and prices scale over the years.

Still I opined that I’m getting value for my buck; for the quality remained constant.
