Ramadan Buffet and buka puasa at Paya Serai Restaurant, PJ Hilton

*Guest post by YSquare Chan.
Do you smell something? Do you smell the sweet scent of dates, the heavy herbs on roasted lamb, or the alluring santan (coconut milk) on nasi lemak? If you don’t, you sure will soon because the Ramadhan month is upon us again!
Every year, I kept reminding myself to try all these great Malays specialties during Ramadhan, for if I missed it, I would have to wait one more year for it!

Not sure I am super lucky or Ramadhan is coming really early this year. Courtesy to Rebecca and Pj Hiton for having me for the  Buka Puasa (breaking fast) in Paya Serai Restaurant even before the Ramadhan month started.

Mooncakes – Toh Yuen, Hilton Petaling Jaya

Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant of Hilton Petaling Jaya celebrates the joyful Mid-autumn Festival with its new range of robustly flavoured snowskin selections and premium baked mooncakes from 11th August till 30th September 2012.

Now, does anyone mind telling me exactly when is the Mid-Autumn festival? It seems that every festival has an early start this year. Invites for Ramadhan came 1 month before Ramadhan, and I seen mooncakes being sold starting a few weeks back.

I’m not a big fan of mooncakes but I admit these mooncakes from Toh Yuen got me hooked. We had tasting samples of the snowskin range and was given 4 of the baked ones to take home. I thought the mooncakes would be left sitting on my kitchen top since I’m not fond of mooncakes, but after I started with the White Lotus Paste with Single Yolk (RM22), I was hooked!

Ramadhan Buffet 2012 – Paya Serai, Hilton PJ

** For more Ramadhan reviews click HERE –> Ramadhan Buffets – Where’s your favourite?

Frankly, this took my breath away as one of the most extensive buffet ever, with so many dishes at each section that I shook my head in disbelief as I kept on taking picture after picture, all the while wondering when it will end so I can finally “break fast”.

Below: Just the appetisers (tossed raw salads – kerabu) section alone offers about 15 different trays of kerabu.

Toh Yuen @ PJ Hilton – Chinese New Year 2012 set menus

This is my 1st visit to Toh Yuen at PJ Hilton and admittedly, it turned out to be one of the better Chinese New Year menus that I have sampled so far.

Maybe it’s the opening piece, the majestic “Dragon Yee Sang”, priced at an equally grandiose price of RM888++ that jolted me out of my dulled culinary senses.

Ramadhan Buffet 2011 @ Paya Serai, Hilton PJ

Fasting month is drawing closer as days goes by. It is a month where the Muslims will fast from dawn to dusk, refraining themselves from eating & drinking for almost 13 hours each day for 30 days. It is said to teach Muslims about patience & humility.

As a non-muslim, fasting month for me means Ramadhan bazaars! And Ramadan buffets!! Food, food, glorious food everywhere! :P
Hotels are known to take advantage of this holy month to serve special buffets at special prices for everyone! This includes Hilton PJ. Check out what they have in store for you this year!

Sarawak cuisine by guest chef Jamilah – @ Paya Serai, PJ Hilton

I have been Sarawak-fied lately. Barely 2 weeks after I came back from Bintulu & Kuching, where I had the most authentically possible prepared Sarawak cuisine in longhouses & cultural villages, I was extended an invitation to the Sarawak Cuisine promotion at Paya Serai PJ Hilton.

Now, I’ve had the buffet here before & thought it was pretty decent.
For the Sarawak Cuisine promo, it is a combination of  the usual buffet spread but with an added area for the the Sarawakian delicacies.
