Nippon Paint x Urbanscapes :Trend Beyond Colours 2020/21

Just a week ago I took a walk around KL and met 4 local artists in flesh.
While this isn’t my usual afternoon pursuit; walking under the hot sun and checking out art installations, this collaboration between Malaysia’s No. 1 coating solutions provider, Nippon Paint Malaysia Group (“Nippon Paint”) and Urbanscapes was an interesting project to explore.

Themed Colours of Life, it was a creative partnership where renowned local artists Suzy Sulaiman, Fritilldea, Nassuha and Condimentstrings take their artwork to the next level,  incorporating the four core colour trend themes from Nippon Paint’s Trend Beyond Colours 2020/21, creating insta-worthy sites in the heart of KL!

Anything insta-worthy is well, worth checking out for me! 🙂
The artists’ masterpieces are placed at key historical spots within the city centre, and all within easy walking distance. Each artist’s work aims to bring life to these once dilapidated areas through vibrant colours and designs – covering different surfaces from walls to floors, and even interactive structures made of wood and steel. The four masterpieces, each with its own individual style, uses core colour themes from Nippon Paint’s Trend Beyond Colours 2020/21.

Suzy’s was first.
Inspired by my own passion for architecture and digital design, I wanted to create a kid-friendly sculpture that strongly resonates with Malaysians of all ages, bringing the community as one. At the same time, I also made sure to incorporate colours that give off a warm ambience,” said Suzy Sulaiman.

1. Suzy Sulaiman – Main-Main Media: Interactive Park

I personally like this play structure as you can actually touch, climb and walk within it.

We moved to “Balance” next, a colourful wall-to-floor abstract mural. This is a light installation so it is both Instagrammable-worthy day and night!

2. Fritilldea  – Balance: Wall-to-Floor Mural

The 3rd installation was by Nassuha.
This was an impressive long mural with a mayhem of colourful characters like a lion dance head, a whale, cat, and whatever else. I couldn’t relate to this one, but I liked it just because he had a lion dance head in it. I’m a rather big fan of cultural lion dances.

3. Nassuha  – Reconnect KL:  Mural

4.  B-loom – Condimentstrings:  Macrame

The final one was a standout.
Colourful, quirky and vibrant, I think it would make a unique background for OOTDs! 😉

Understanding that art transcends beyond just paper and walls, Nippon Paint thrives to empower the Malaysian public to be more adventurous when it comes to coatings solutions. Datin Wong Meng Lee, Assistant General Manager of Nippon Paint Malaysia added, “We believe that art and colours have the power to change the world. At Nippon Paint, innovation is in our DNA and we are constantly looking for ways to inspire the public.
