Once upon a time, beverages at Chinese dinners meant only chinese tea/beers. Sarsi/Orange would be the default for the underaged. And as dinner progressed, bottles of Stout may appear. Next to follow were likely to be brandy or whisky.

The scenario is certainly different now. Most Chinese restaurants now serves wine with their dishes; or at the very least, there are wine options available in their menu. Fruit juices & Coke replaced Sarsi & orange.

Celestial Court at Sheraton Imperial is one of the grand old dame of Cantonese fine dining restaurants in KL. I have heard tales of “how good it was last time” & til now, I’m still hearing the same positive reviews from these 30- 40 y/old friends who had dined there back then.
A recommended feat indeed, to have stood against the test of time & also the proliferation of millions of (Ok, I’m exaggerating here) Chinese restaurants in town.

Say helloooooo to Plan B!

Under the same management as Canoodling in BV II, ( I was informed by Aja, the Brand Comm Mgr that Canoodling has recently gone through a change of menu as well) Plan B looks set to be another iconic F & B outlet in Bangsar.

For a start, it certainly has all the makings of a successful one. Plan B offers a straightforward menu with firm favourites such as American breakfast sets, varieties of pasta, healthy salads & now, who wouldn’t fall in love with such desserts on display?

One World Hotel – Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant

UPDATE: Chinese New Year 2011 at Zuan Yuan! Loved the Braised Diced Sea Treasure, Dried Oyster and Sea Moss in Golden Bag – (post HERE).

I was surprised to see the human traffic at One World Hotel on a weekday. Due to its close proximity to the popular 1 – Utama Shopping Centre, & partly due to the convenience of a walk-through passage to the shopping mall via the hotel & vice versa, the hotel was pretty crowded with office workers when I was there for lunch recently. And I was told this is the norm.

My lunch with Florence was at Zuan Yuan, One World’s innovative Cantonese restaurant. As I strolled in, I noticed businessmen in suits; deep in conversation & groups of office workers in private rooms sharing a few Cantonese dishes together.
Bamboo baskets of dim sum littered some tables, as Zuan Yuan offers halal dim sum during lunch.

Not bad, I thought to myself. A good place for a business meeting, over some good food, and it is discreet enough. Classy place too, for bringing clients & not having to worry about looking like a cheapskate. LOL.

Launch of YES 4G by YTL Communications – Rates, Devices & ..

A lot was said about the 4G standard, with some die-hard techies pushing to make their point heard about YTL Comms being misleading and misusing the 4G moniker.

I’m not going into that; for as a consumer, I seriously don’t give a s**t what they call it. Give me SPEEDY, ZIPPY & RELIABLE connection & I’m happy. Even better if all of that comes with reasonable rates.

The rates were finally revealed yesterday. Just as mentioned in the soft launch HERE , there is no plan, no monthly commitments. YES is SIM-less & it is Pay-As-You-Use.

Classy Champagne Sundays at Shook! Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang

Weekend brunches are a luxury to most of us. What more if it is a champagne brunch! Myself haven’t been to many, and was most fortunate to be on the invite list for the launch of the newest champagne brunch on the block just last Sunday.

Sundays at Shook! in Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang are now sparkled up with a touch of sophistication. The champagne of choice here is the superb Piper Heidsieck, which was awarded 91 points by Wine Spectator. For wine lovers, Cloudy Bay; one of the best known “new world” wines will be served.

Though I’m not much of a drinker, I insistedly took a sip of the Piper Heidsieck & was rewarded with the excellent taste of smooth luxury in my mouth. Hhmm..

Starbucks has got new food options on its menu! :yahoo:

I’m not fond of chain- cafes food; but most unfortunately, more often than not, (*frown*) I find myself in Starbucks for business meetings too many times a week for my liking.

Yet we can’t deny that Starbucks is an ideal meeting point. Easily recognisable, available everywhere & most importantly, there is FREE WIFI provided for convenient browsing.

Coincidentally, the Christmas season is upon us, and hence the Christmas Toffee Nut Latte and Peppermint Mocha made their appearances again. Overall feedback on the Toffee Nut Latte was “too sweet” while the the Peppermint Mocha was highly recommended from those who have tried it. Myself sipped the Mango Passion for the 1st time & immediately got hooked as it was not too sweet or sour. Very refreshing & easy to drink.
