My monthly excursions to Singapore are usually about food, food, and more food.
I do however, make attempts to catch up with both Malaysian and Singaporean friends whenever I’m in town, and it is all for the better if I could convince them to join me at some restaurants/cafes to stuff themselves silly with me.
So what do you do on Chinese New Year eve if you are Chinese and you do not have a reunion dinner to attend to?
Well, one still has to eat right?
I called my Muslim friend (one that is likely not to have plans) and asked him if he would accompany me to this famous pratha place that had initiated some pratha-fusioned creations.
Being in Singapore for Chinese New Year this year was a first for me. It turned out to be a good move and all happy vibes has to be credited to Sara, a dearest friend who truly wanted me to take a break.
She provided support, company and a lovely place to stay.
I was definitely much rejuvenated after my 5 days break!
On 13th of December Love A Loaf, a Frénch inspired bakery in PENANG launched their croissant lava series.
Founded in 2014, Out of The Cake Box in Telok Blangah Singapore is a small home-style bakery offering freshly baked and exceptionally unique cakes.
And the word unique here is not to be taken lightly.
When I posted about the excellent Nyonya food served at Unicorn Cafe (link –> HERE) a few months back, many readers and friends rejoiced, for they too have been searching high and low for a restaurant that serves good Nyonya food that is fairly priced.
Based on my observations, Nyonya restaurants that serves pork on the menu are lesser in number (correct me if I’m wrong) than those who steer clear of pork for business reasons.
Besides, Nyonya food/dishes are traditionally pork based (again, correct me if I’m wrong as I’m still learning) so I figured that if the restaurant serves pork, it is potentially “more authentic“.
Anyhow the happy discovery of Unicorn Cafe had lead to demand of a similar food establishment, but one suitable for the Muslim crowd.
