Where is Aunty Lee?
Is the sweet lady still cooking or has she passed on the business?
Is the current Aunty Lee restaurant managed by her family members?
Is the food still the same?
So many questions and so many versions of the story had circulated since 2014 when Aunty Lee took ill and the restaurant was closed for a while.
As someone who is obsessed about Nyonya food (try following my 14 nyonya restaurants eating adventures in MELAKA HERE and you will know what I mean), I daresay that I have a good idea of how a great Nyonya meal should be like.
That said, I understand that there are variations in recipes in every Nyonya family, as with every proclaimed Nyonya restaurant in town.
While I can confidently recommend a good Baba Nyonya restaurant in Melaka, my Klang Valley list is fewer.
Baba Nyonya by Sambal Chilli was a recent discovery for me.

After years and hundreds of RM spent tasting and testing every Nyonya chang I can get my hands on in Melaka and Klang Valley, I’ve finally found the best of them all – generous fillings to rice ratio, every glutinous grain perfectly cooked, each weighting consistently at 180 – 200g and opens to reveal sweet and savoury minced meat perfumed with spices which are neither too heavy nor too mild.
It is in short, the perfect Nyonya chang.
