Onde Onde at Desa Park City aims to serve well prepared Malaysian favorites. When I was invited to have lunch here I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I’m a Penangite, and frankly, I have an even fussier tastebud than most of my peers.

Except for a few, Penang food in KL hasn’t been too promising. Even for Penang One; where selected hawkers are in collaboration with the owner and they bring the fresh ingredients, soup and condiments directly from the hawkers themselves daily from individual stalls in Penang didn’t wow me entirely.
Food can be inconsistent and I only favour their Char Kuey Teow, Koay Teow Thng and Mua Chee. The rest is just decent.

So I didn’t have high expectations walking into Onde Onde, though I must say I left pretty satisfied.

Like all Nyonya inspired eateries, the nostalgic ornaments and oriental touches are present. Service is brisk and food arrived swiftly.

I started with the char kuey teow; probably one of the strictest litmus test for any “Penang cuisine” eatery. This was a let-down. Any Penangite can tell you that just from the picture below.

It’s the Raya LONGGGGG weekend! :DD

I must say I’m loving it, for it meant a weekend of smooth traffic (it can’t beat the double celebrations of CNY and Raya though – that’s when the town is almost deserted!), long runs, food-hunts and backlog clearance of blog updates!

Other than burgers and cakes, I have recently embarked on a dim sum gorging spree. Over this long break, I have a place in Kepong in mind. And just last week I was in Jinjang Utara, popping morsels of absolute delicious homemade dim sum into my mouth.

Teh Kim Tek Restaurant, Kepong – Bak Kut Teh at 630am!

Fancy your Bak Kut Teh fix at 630am?
For this place, the phrase “the early bird catches the worm” rings true. According to some reliable sources & die hard fans, Teh Kim Tek opens at 5 am and you will be scraping the pot if you arrive any later than 9am.

The restaurant boasts of 2 shoplots & for those who wish to breathe the “chi” of the morning, feel free to settle yourself under the trees right outside .

Silver Spoon Trattoria @ Wisma Menjalara, Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

I have expected nothing less than stellar food for this session considering that I have been following Ms Jazz’s blog for a while. She is quite a food connoisseur herself, having been out of the country (it does broadens one’s culinary buds right?) as well as a regular patron in most fine dining restaurants.
Her reviews were pretty critical as well as honest. Which brings me to Silver Spoon Trattoria, her very own family establishment. One wouldn’t expect anything less than the best.

For example, the Chef is Chef Ken, who was the same Chef @ Ken’s cafe previously. Apparently he has quite a reputation.

And he is famous for his Tiramisu, or so I heard. Well, I find the Creme Brule (RM14) too sweet, the tiramisu (RM16) OK, intoxicatingly infused with alcohol (great for alcoholics) and the Choc Pot (RM15) a perfect medley of flavor and texture (mousse-like) but wonderfully rich. Yes, the chocolate pot is my favourite.
