3 tiered cakes stands and warm scones plus a pot of tea gets boring after a while. There’s frankly nothing much to differentiate each high-tea offering from the others in the Klang Valley. Dry scones, insipid sandwiches and pieces of limp pastries. I think my tea of crispy fried bananas satisfies better and cost me way less too.
And thus Chef Brett Muller and his team at Thirty8, Grand Hyatt KL, decided to jazz things up a bit.
This yonanas device, (I thoroughly disapprove of the name) must be the best device I have held in my arms this year! 🙂
I have written so much about Swich cakes (and I still have about another 8 cakes more to go in draft) that I don’t think I need to go into details about each of Swich components in this high tea set.
I dropped in Pavilion for the soft launch of Ippudo Ramen yesterday (blog post next) and after a hearty bowl of ramen, I went in search of the liquid nitrogen ice-cream/gelato kiosk that opened just weeks back.
Ooh My Gas (OMG) is located somewhat directly behind the escalator, on the opposite side of Lavender Bakery on the LG of Pavilion KL.
I have said many times that I loved most of the cakes from Swich Cafe and here’s another of my review in continuous support of their creations. I made another visit soon after the debut of the mangosteen cake (review HERE) for her Avocado Cake and as expected, I wasn’t able to resist the other cakes on display and ended up with an additional Apple and Banana Cake.
Owner Cheng is one of the most creative baker I know and she is tirelessly conceiving new creations almost every week. As of now, she had added Jackfruit Cake, Ciku Yoghurt Cake with Roasted Cashews, Coconut Cashew Cake, durian ice cream and a Durian Ice Cream Pavlova to Swich Cafe menu.
I have been meaning to drop in for her cakes for weeks, but a few untoward incidents had left me in despair for a while and I had temporarily lost my mojo for food hunting. Nevertheless, my cakes obsession had resurfaced recently so I hope to visit Swich latest outlet at Publika Red Bridge soon to sample her new cakes! 🙂
Today I got to meet Chef Adriano Zumbo in person at the Academy of Pastry Arts PJ! 🙂
The rather cute young chef was as sweet as his confectioneries. Well, at least he was to all of us during the preview this morning.
Much has been written about the afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton. The concept of the British High Tea should not be new to all of us by now. A tradition of British aristrocrats (high society so to speak), it refers to tea time with a selection of bite-sized savoury and sweet items, the usual being classic buttery scones with clotted cream, jams as well as cucumber cream cheese or salmon sandwiches.
And of course, let’s not forget the tea.
