Nasi Lemak Sushi was at Ruyi and Lyn. And now we have Nasi Lemak Maki at Boxes Cafe, (BBCC) Bukit Bintang City Centre.

I’m not surprised really.
Nasi lemak sushi and nasi lemak maki roll is not that difficult to replicate considering that both make use of rice as the main ingredient.

However, while the nasi lemak sushi at Ruyi and Lyn was delicate, pretty and tasted remarkably close to the real deal, the nasi lemak maki at Boxes Cafe BBCC was a bit of a miss.

What do you do on a Sunday?
My Sundays are pretty standard if I’m in town. I hike, I write and I explore for new dining options.

I’ve known about Softcore for sometime but the location was a deterrent. Sunway is one area I avoid like a plague.
On a Sunday however, traffic and parking woes aren’t as bad. Since I had a willing driver last Sunday, we found ourselves in the spacious and minimalist decorated outlet in less than 20 minutes from Bangsar.

I eyed the outdoor seating longingly but it was presently occupied by 2 large groups.

‘Darn‘, I had thought. There goes my photos.

Koru Cafe, Empire Damansara – New Zealand inspired cafe

Let’s began today’s cafe post with a little bit of background of the cafe’s name; Koru.

At first Koru sounded to me like a name picked out on whim for its simplicity and ease of pronunciation, or perhaps because it sounded cute.

But no, Koru means “loop” in Māori and this loop refers to the spiral shape based on the contour of a new unfurling silver fern frond.
It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattoos and symbolizes new life, growth, strength and peace.

Surprised?
Well, I was too.

Spot the koru? 🙂

Crazy Penguin, Kota Damansara : Free coffee with a bingsu

2 weeks back I was at Rimba & Rusa for a cuppa with friends.
Rimba and Rusa is at the new Sunway Nexis; a mixed development of residential and commercial; the sort of new mixed commercial space that also includes two tower blocks for offices.

The architecture incorporates a lot of greenery and interior landscaping into the overall design, making the space look vast and feels uncluttered, thus encouraging leisurely idling at its retail or F & B stores.

There isn’t much currently except for Rimba and Rusa, The Rail Canteen and a cute ice parlour that goes by the name Crazy Penguin.

I Am 80s Cafe Petaling Jaya

We are always on the lookout for a cafe away from the usual crowded locality of Publika, Hartamas, SS2 and Damansara.
We both write, and we appreciate the occasional change of surroundings that might act as a catalyst for the dreaded writers’ block.

This was an unlikely discovery, for there is no reason for me to be in the neighbourhood but as circumstances would have it, I did went pass this street one day and saw the signboard.
“Oh, wow. A hidden cafe. Looks peaceful here.” I had thought.

Now, when did I start to get interested in cafe hopping again?

Well, since I got tagged on that “says” article by my coffee-loving friends Ivy and Kevin, and though I was quick to disregard it (heck, don’t you agree that those damn clickbait articles are just annoying?), I thought a few was worth a visit after a quick glance through the list.

So last Saturday I hopped into Second Sunday at Damansara Jaya.
On Sunday, I was here at JEQ In The House.
Yes, admittedly all not far from my home and doesn’t involve any more than a 20 minutes drive; because running a few businesses simultaneously doesn’t leave you much time for traffic jams.
