There’s always the question of “Where to get good coffee, where is the best breakfast/brunch cafe in KL/PJ“.
To be diplomatically correct, there is no best anywhere.

They have always said that food and taste is subjective.
I had to concur of course, for the proof in that saying is evident in the eateries that are still doing brisk business, and these are the very same eateries that I won’t consider dining there (after having dined there before of course) even if the food is free.

If you are happy with the food served, you are willing to pay the price stated and you enjoyed your time there, it is a good meal.

There’s very little not to like at Bites.

For one, the WIFI actually works.

Ok, I’m joking. Or maybe not.

I’ve been to an average of 3-4 cafes per week over the past month and 90% of them has WIFI that DOESN’T work.
So when the WIFI at Bites actually works I must say the cafe earned brownie points from me instantly. Don’t get me wrong, I won’t order a drink and stay for 4 hours, but an hour or so of surfing while relaxing or writing in a cafe is important to me as a writer/social addict.
Simply put, if you offer WIFI, make sure it works. Else don’t offer it.

Most food looks better than it tastes. I for one; had over the years, almost perfected the art of being able to determine if a dish is going to be good or otherwise just by looking at it.
When my Spicy Savoury Mince – RM23 was set down on the table in front of me my eyes widen and I felt as if I have finally hit the jackpot. Bloody hell, now that looks like how scrambled eggs should be! Has my search finally ended? Is this it? The best scrambled eggs in town?

YEAST Boulangerie – Bistro and Bar à Vin @ Telawi Bangsar

The newest and most promising French boulangerie and casual dining outlet commenced operations just last week.

I first got wind of it when Chef Paul of The Cooking Studio hinted at an upcoming French bakery during my Rachel Allen session just a month back. Chef Paul, who knew about my obsession with breads and desserts had confidently proclaimed that my woes of seeking good European breads here in KL are over.

Indulgence Restaurant & Living, Ipoh – my Designer Breakfast the morning after

I woke up this morning and asked myself “What’s for breakfast?”.

Immediately visions of thick fluffy french toast and poached eggs came to mind. I’m a huge huge fan of western breakfast. Give me toast, eggs, sausages and muesli anytime. Other than the occasional nasi lemak & dim sum, my immediate preference for breakfast is Continental or American.

It was while I was pondering where to head to for a good American fry-up did flashbacks of my indulgent Ipoh trip came into mind.
Oh, I love Indulgence Restaurant and Living. I love my Qatrynka suite and I love my wonderful breakfast the day after.
Let me share with you the breakfast that awaits me when I woke up from my slumber on the four-poster bed.

Teh Kim Tek Restaurant, Kepong – Bak Kut Teh at 630am!

Fancy your Bak Kut Teh fix at 630am?
For this place, the phrase “the early bird catches the worm” rings true. According to some reliable sources & die hard fans, Teh Kim Tek opens at 5 am and you will be scraping the pot if you arrive any later than 9am.

The restaurant boasts of 2 shoplots & for those who wish to breathe the “chi” of the morning, feel free to settle yourself under the trees right outside .

The Haute Food Co, Plaza Damas

My 1st visit didn’t got off to a very good start as we got lost though I followed the map on the website to the T.
So take my advice; forget the map.

A foolproof way would be to park in Hartamas Shopping Centre & to go to the 2nd floor where Starbucks is. Exit through the glass doors & you will see Aji Don Ramen. Proceed to the row behind it and turn right. Walk til the middle of the row, keeping a lookout for 2 big blue and white stripes umbrellas (which is quite obscure as well) on the opposite side. It is somewhere in the middle of the row.

Not familiar with HSC/Plaza Damas, we walked up & down the row a few times on our first visit. I would have hopped into other outlets (there’s quite a selection of eateries here) but the need to verify the claims of “best scones in Malaysia” and “superb sandwiches” had me obstinately thrudging up and down looking for The Haute Food Co.

Boy, was I glad when I finally spotted the entrance.
