My Wine for Asia affair started in 2010, when I was invited to attend the launch for the Wine For Asia 2010 (post here ). I must say in 2010 I was already steadily picking up some wine knowledge but it was really thanks to Wine For Asia that my knowledge expanded exponentially.

In 2010, I didn’t get to attend the actual event in Singapore, due mostly to budget contraints.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines & Cristang, a historical Malaysian-Dutch food experience

Beginning from March 1^st 2012, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will serve a choice of carefully selected Cristang meals on board of their flights from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam. Passengers can look forward to tasty dishes such as a Cristang salad, Chicken Curry Belanda or Beef Semur when they travel in Economy or World Business Class.

When I got the invite for the launch, I literally drooled over my keyboard and replied with a ‘Yes’, though the location of the event was daunting…

SEPANG!

Our hot food was prepared in the LSG Sky Chef building, where most of the in-flight menus are prepared.

IKEA Swedish Meatballs – Ikea Singapore vs Ikea Malaysia

One of the things I like to do when I’m in other countries is to visit a food chain; especially those that has branches or franchises in more than 1 country.

Besides providing appealing content for a blogpost; it’s an interesting eye-opener to myself as well as my blog readers to know how in other countries, food chains tailors their menus to suit a specific country and it’s food culture.

A while back I was in Sg for a quick trip. Someone told me Ikea Singapore serves pork on it’s menu. Even better, that person told me specifically there are pork meatballs!
So yes, I hopped into Ikea just to have the meatballs. Don’t ask me if the furniture stock in Ikea Singapore is any different from the ones in Malaysia. I wouldn’t know! But I do know that the meatballs is different! 😀

Indulgence Restaurant & Living, Ipoh – my RM790++ Qatrynka suite

God (or rather, everyone) knows that I needed a break. Oh wait, so does everyone else that’s in the city right?

The traffic jam, the unpredictable weather (why does it have to rain every single day at 5pm??? As if after-work traffic ain’t bad enough as it is!), the datelines..it gets to us doesn’t it?
The city can be exciting, but at the same it wears you out as well.

For my sanity, I travel out of KL at least once a month. Last month I was in Sg for Wine for Asia, and earlier this month I was transported back to the countryside as I traipsed through the sleepy town of Pekan and Sg Lembing in Kuantan.

Short respites like this helps in its little way to sooth my consistent high strung emotions.

My latest city-runway adventure was in this charming yet romantic Tudor colonial bungalow in Ipoh.

Indulgence Restaurant and Living is no new kid on the block.
Julie Song (now, one can’t mention “Indulgence” in the same breath and miss out Julie! 🙂 ) started out with a simple cakes & coffee joint in May 1996 in Canning Gardens, which back then was probably one of the few commercial areas in Ipoh town. Julie obviously got a winning formula in place; as her cosy cafe expanded to 2 shoplots shortly after and then in Nov 2005 Indulgence Restaurant was born, serving Modern European cuisine to the simple, laid back citizens of sleepy Ipoh.

I woke up tangled in soft, pristine white sheets this morning.

I kicked off the sheets, stepped into the colourful and romantic bathroom; washed my face under the pretty lamps shades and headed out for some Ipoh dim sum!

Take a tour with me of the opulent yet romantic Qatrynka Suite, one of the only 2 suites here in Indulgence Living.

Here are some pictures if you are too lazy to watch the video (tsk, tsk, it’s worth watching I tell you!), but they don’t do justice to the place. The feel and ambiance is indescribable.

Last year, I was at Vintry’s, Jaya 33 for the Wine For Asia 2010 (post here ) launch. I didn’t know much about this annual event back then. Nor do I know much about wines.
Today, I’m much more well-versed with the wines of the world, having been exposed to many wine pairing dinners and wine events over the course of the year. And this year, I will be attending the Wine For Asia 2011 on Oct 28th and the Wine Fiesta on Oct 29th 2011!

WINE FOR ASIA 2011 – An exciting programme awaits you!

Wine For Asia 2011 is Asia’s most comprehensive international wine exhibition and it will be held on 27-28 October 2011, followed by its extension, Wine Fiesta @ Wine For Asia 2011 on 29 October 2011.

Firefly Trip 2011 – Sibu Night Market & Sibu Central Market, Sarawak

I started out my Sibu adventure post last week with my video on eating live, wriggly sago worms HERE– (Do watch it!) & in this post, I’m going show you both the night & morning markets that we have visited in Sibu.

** Soaring above the clouds..thanks to Firefly Malaysia!

On our first night, we toured the night market; which happened to be the only night market in Sibu town. Not unlike our night markets here in KL/Peninsular Malaysia, it has the usual stalls hawkering clothing, bags, accessories & household items.
