FOOD: Yong Tau Foo Eat and Happy – the “NEW” Old Wing, 1 Utama
Apologies for the hiatus on the FOOD @ the “NEW” Old Wing, 1 Utama series! Trust me, I have been continously exploring the other new food outlets at the “NEW” Old Wing, 1 Utama. And now I’m back with materials and pictures for another 5 posts!
Out of the many outlets, one that stood out was this “needs lessons in branding” Yong Tau Foo Eat and Happy kiosk right in the middle of spanking new Lower Ground floor, 1 Utama.
FOOD: The Soup Restaurant – 1 Utama, the “NEW” Old Wing
Here’s another of my “Food at the “NEW” Old Wing, 1 Utama series of posts. This restaurant is located on the same floor as Putien Malaysia and enjoyed the same long queue as Putien did when it first opened.
I was there during it’s opening week (yes, this post is a bit late.. ahem..) and it was another night where we craved something tummy-warming sans post-gym session.
The name pretty much explained it’s menu and just like Putien Malaysia, The Soup Restaurant is a Singaporean enterprise that has recently ventured onto our shores.
I’m all for new F & B outlets, as it gave us foodies better options and a wider variety of cuisine to sample.
I am however, a bit ruffled that there are a proliferation of Singaporean F & B franchises in KL lately; of which most serves simple Chinese cuisine, something that I think we Malaysians can do as well.
The sad thing is, Malaysian food entrepreneurs seems to prefer fusion, Italian, German and whatever else fancy cuisine styles. Most of these outlets went belly-up after mere months of operations. Seriously, other than Ben Yong of the Ben’s/Plan B empire; are there any other food entrepreneurs worth mentioning?

FOOD: AK Noodles House – 1 Utama, the “NEW” Old Wing
It was one of those nights that I needed something light and soupy. Something hot to warm the tummy and something healthy (or rather, something that remotely resembling quality protein).
Fish is a good choice. And Ah Koong Noodles Restaurant offers authentic fishballs made from fresh Wolf-Herring & Yellow Tail fish.
FOOD: Putien Malaysia – 1 Utama, the “NEW” Old Wing
1 Utama is like my 2nd home.
Checking in on an average of 4 times a week mainly because of Celebrity Fitness, I do my grocery shopping here as well; hitting Cold Storage for the imported items and Jusco for the usual stuffs.
The prowl for sustenance usually follows immediately after. Choices used to be mediocre and restrictive and at most I’ll hop into Daves’ (an all time favourite of mine) or I’ll just grab a bun from Sun Moulin.
But things are certainly looking up for foodies now with the recent developments of the “Old Wing”. I have been checking out each outlet and I have almost covered all! So it’s time to start sharing my experiences with you guys!
Today I’m starting off my series of “Food at the “NEW” Old Wing, 1 Utama“ with Putien Restaurant. It’s the most recently opened restaurant & I hopped in for lunch after a particularly strenous session in the gym.
Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant @ One World Hotel – Chinese New Year Menu 2012!
Happy New Year 2012!!
So I’m done with turkeys, gingerbread man and stollens.
And here I am, starting the year feasting (what else eh? :p) on MORE food!
This year, I thought Chinese New Year is rather uncomfortably close to Christmas (less than a month really), and while my Christmas goodies at home remained unwrapped, I’m already propelled forward on the yee sang tossing rounds!
A ‘teochew’ date at Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant, One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya
A selection of Teochew dishes has been specially prepared by Zuan Yuan’s Chinese Master Chef Michael Chew throughout the month of November 2011 for lunch and dinner.
MIGF 2011 – West Lake Garden Chinese Restaurant, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa
Chinese Master Chef, Chan Choo Kean has never cease to amaze me with his culinary creations & creativity streak.
During the rice dumplings festival, I savoured his whopping 3kg rice dumpling; plus an array of skillfully prepared desserts.
Then I returned again for his delectable Shuang Wei Mooncakes; all of which were incredibly good, especially the novel ones like Snow Skin Green Tea with Royal Milk Tea and Mocha Paste, Golden Baked Low Sugar White Lotus Paste with Salted Dried Shrimp & Snow Skin Chocolate Whisky Paste.
That’s Master Chef Chan’s specialty I guess; his touch & ability to create new blend of flavours that works each time. Some chefs does it well, though most chefs’ efforts tend to turn out disastrous.
In Chef Chan’s case, it has been consistently stellar so far!
The sumptuous platter that whets the appetite.
