On our 3rd day in Shanghai, our itinerary were a bit more cultural compared to the day before.
We rose to explore the gardens of government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. According to our guide, this officer was high in ranks, and retired wealthy.

Pan Yunduan built it for himself and his family. Today the garden had undergone many changes since its beginnings 400 years ago.

People’s Square, Madame Tussauds and Huangpu River Cruise in Shanghai

After the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and lunch we headed over to Shanghai People’s Square which is located at the very center of Shanghai and was the demarcation point of East Nanjing Road and West Nanjing Road. The key phrase here is “Nanjing Road”; as this area is very popular for shopping!
But more on that later while I bore you with some essential facts about People’s Square. 🙂

** Facts taken from the WWW – This area was once the racecourse regarded as the ‘No.1 racecourse Far East’ but was destroyed later.
In 1949, the People’s Avenue was built across the center of the area with the People’s Park built on the north side and the People’s Square on the south part. By the end of 1993, through a comprehensive reconstruction, it covered an area about 140,000 square meters and has become the largest public square of the city.

Shanghai 2013 – A day at Oriental Pearl TV Tower, People’s Square, Madame Tussauds & Huangpu River Cruise

Just a month ago I was in Shanghai, shivering in 2-8 Celsius and eating 20 dishes at one meal. But I can’t complain, since it was my first visit to Shanghai and I had a blank canvas to fill.

After 5 days, I have toured picturesque gardens, stood high over Shanghai city in Oriental Pearl TV Tower, cruised over water villages and posed with famous celebrities (albeit wax ones).

It is difficult to get out of bed if not for the temptation of breakfast 🙂

We landed at 12.30am on 20th February and only left the airport at about 1:15am after waiting for everyone to clear immigration. We finally arrived at Courtyard by Marriot, Puxi after another 1 hour on the road. Sleep was well after 3am!

Ok, maybe not so much the weather but nevertheless the thrill of my “inaugural” visit to Shanghai, thanks to AAX inaugural flight is keeping me warm to my toes.

Hostel in Japan: Khaosan Tokyo Original, Asakusa Japan

Due to poor planning (or no planning at all), one of the days within the week I was at Asakusa area my hostel (Sakura) didn’t have any space so I had to move just for that one night. Well, not a problem I thought, it should be easy enough to get another hostel in the hostel infested area of Asakusa. Or so I thought.
As luck would have it, most of the affordable ones (meaning cheaper than 2500 Yen – RM120) are fully booked.

After much googling and surfing between hostelworld and other sites, I’m back on hostelworld and booked the cheapest available but pretty nearby one.

When I went to Japan last year, it was by stroke of luck that I got tickets from Data Tony himself on twitter. Happy with such a windfall, the worry of footing my own expenses and accommodation didn’t really hit me til I started researching online.

Food in Nepal – Day 3, 4 – breakfast, Him Thai Restaurant, Cafereena – a multi cuisine restaurant & Chinatown Restaurant

Day 3 started at 4am with no breakfast. Thankfully I had my stash of pastries bought the night before. 😛
As you may know, the very next morning in Pokhara we went up to Sarangkot for the breathtaking sunrise. Do take a look at the pictures HERE.

Upon our return, we tucked in our breakfast at Hotel Trek-O-Tel (Pokhara) which was extravagant by Nepalese standards. Other than the usual bread, butter, milk and plain fried eggs, there were pork, stewed cucumbers, dhalls, POTATOES, chappati and thick fluffy scrambled eggs with minced vegetables.
