Japan 2012 – Day 7 – Kobe Beef Lunch at Steakland Kobe, Osaka

Ahh.. the last I was at was day 4 at Tsukiji market right? Well, I just had the mood to blog about this kobe beef lunch I had in Kobe, Osaka after a rather awful hamburg set lunch I had at Senya Dining at 1U today.

When I was in Japan, there was very little (or rather no) itinerary planned. But Tsukiji Market was well on the list of places to visit; the other being Kobe. You could probably guess by now that my trips are very much centered around food and fun/adventure, rather than cultural or scenery.

I guess there should be no better place to eat Kobe beef than in Kobe, Osaka itself right? My attempts at finding a Kobe cow farm to visit was in vain as the farm is not open for public viewing. There was one; the Rokkosan Farm in Kobe but activities were cheese making, horse riding and even cooking classes for kids but NONE for the public to actually see the cattle or the butchery. I was hoping to have an up-close and personal experience seeing the cattle graze, slaughtered as well as the butchery process and of course, explanations about the marbling, cuts and etc.

Well, I guess there was nothing left to do but eat the Kobe beef. Based on my hostel’s recommendation as well as online sites, Steakland Kobe had pretty good reviews for both taste and price.

So Steakland Kobe it is. We were there for lunch which is a viable option for those on budget as the lunch sets are straightforward and cheaper than the dinner sets.

Tsukiji market is firmly on my “favourite places list” for Tokyo.
I have an obsession with wet markets and one in close proximity with outlets that serves fresh sashimi with seafood straight from the sea? Heck, that’s my kind of market for sure!

From the start of my Japan trip Tsukiji market was well on the list of places to go for me. In fact, my trip was so last minute it didn’t even have an itinerary to begin with. All I know is that between my flight to Tokyo and my flight departing from Osaka, there are 12 days in between for me to do whatever I want.

The Ramen City is in Aqua City so that was my first stop. Stepping in, I realized it was just another shopping mall but I obligatory took some shots to show you guys.

Japan Day 3 – Odaiba : Ramen City : Statue of Liberty : Gundam : The Rainbow Bridge

Everybody tells me to go to Odaiba.
Everyone who goes to Tokyo, Japan goes to Odaiba.

Being a first timer to Japan, I obediently took the effort and spent and 3 hours commuting to Odaiba. In short of a summary, I thought it was a waste of time. But that’s me. Anyhow, you’re going to see and hear all about my trip here!

So the day started settling out from my hostel. I was still staying in Asakusa area and following my map and guidebook, I was supposed to head to Shimbashi station (Ginza Line) to change to Yurikamome line and stop at Daiba station. All for 500 yen – RM20.

So I followed my hostel’s very useful guide of the subways and popular destinations in Tokyo. Frankly, staying in hostel rocks. They provide all sorts of useful information for the backpackers. 🙂

2 buns and a carton of wonderful Japanese cocoa milk later, I headed out; walking quickly to the nearest station which happily enough is the very Ginza Line that I was supposed to be on. If you have been hearing how well connected Tokyo is via trains/subways, you have heard right.

Japan – McDonalds Breakfast : Sausage and Egg, Cheese Mcgriddles!

Here’s a quick post as I prepare the next day-to-day chronicles of my Japan trip!
For day 3 I went to Odaiba, a popular shopping and entertainment district on a man made island in Tokyo Bay. There’s simply too many pictures and words to share so I should have it done by later today.

Now if you don’t already know, though I’m not a Mcdonalds’ fan, during my travels I make it a point to check out the fast-food joints in the country just to sample anything different that they may have. More often than not, McDonalds (or other fast food joint for that matter) would have bacon and pork on their menu and some rather interesting local twist to its burgers. For example, my Halloween Burger in Burger King has Kabocha (Japanese pumpkin) which is probably something that we will never get here in Malaysia.

In Japan, I wasn’t very interested to sample the Mcdonalds as the menu looked rather boring. There’s the usual teriyaki, ebi (shrimp ) burgers and a normal looking pork hamburger.

In continuation from my last post, and since it was getting a bit too long for me myself to stroll; here goes the ending part of it!

One thing about Tokyo desserts (other than expensive) is that they are so well made. Japan confectioneries has a great blend of Japanese, European, Chinese, and American influences and Japanese being Japanese; all done to perfection.

BELOW: Chestnuts are in season now and everyday I see chestnut cream tarts, chestnuts cookies, chestnuts cakes and chestnut mochi!

Japan Day 2: Asakusa – Sensoji Temple : Ueno Station : Tokyo Station: Akihabara : Ichiran Ramen

The 2nd day started off slow and relaxed.

Well, not exactly relaxed as I was editing pictures, blogging and jotting down my experiences as each day passed by. My hostel is wonderful; ample room space, large common lounge, clean big shared washrooms and so comfortable to just sit in the common area and talk to the people and get some online work done.

I had a simple breakfast of bread and even took a nap at 1pm. I set out to explore a bit at the Sensoji Temple area which is like 2 streets away from my hostel. I have seen it before yesterday with Thomas but didn’t take a picture of myself at the lantern so today I did! 🙂

The problem with traveling alone – shaky pictures taken by random strangers. Ah well.
