Hello! 😉
Thanks for surfing over to this page. I have listed here some Melaka eats that I have tried during my makan trips to this charming (but HOT!) city. I’m not originally from Melaka, do not claim this to be a list of “top eats/must visit” joints in Melaka but merely listing down the places that was recommended by my Malaccan friends who has generously shared their favourite eateries with me.

Casa del Rio Melaka launched the “Peranakan Tingkat Set Lunch” – RM28++

Casa del Rio Melaka launched the Peranakan Tingkat Set Lunch with full fanfare recently, complete with local celebrity Baba Kenny, Miss Kebaya finalists and of course, the main star Chef Baba William himself.
I had a prelude of his Peranakan delicacies few weeks back when I was in Melaka for a weekend stay and I was thrilled to return again for more.

Best Roti John in Melaka? Restoran Barkat Roti John @ Tanjung Kling, Malacca

The roti john I’m familiar with is the one I see sold at Ramadan Bazaars. In fact I hardly ever saw roti john back in Penang (but my time in Penang was many years ago) so roti john was one of those “KL food” (a loose term I use for food that I find unfamiliar when I first land in KL) that was new to me.

Roti John = long bread coated with scrambled eggs with minced meat (beef or chicken), topped with cabbage and drizzled with a generous amount of mayo.

Cockle (siham), Lala/Siput, Sotong Kangkung and “Fishcakes Rojak” – Hock Chin, Melaka

Why is everyone asking me to go to eat cockles and clams (siput kepah) at some stall located near Madam King, “at the back alley of Bunga Raya” (exact directions given)?
What’s so special about it, I had wondered.

Anyhow that request got me reminiscing of my years in Penang. I remembered sitting at hawker stalls at night and digging my way through piles of boiled cockles dipped in their special chilli sauce.
